1. Check to see if there is any type of damage to the screen, such as a scratch or crack.
2. Try adjusting the picture settings on the TV, such as brightness and contrast.
3. Check the connections between the TV and the external devices it is connected to, such as a DVD player or cable box.
4. Try unplugging the TV for a few minutes, then plugging it back in to see if the lines go away.
5. If none of the above steps work, it may be necessary to contact the manufacturer for a repair or replacement.
This is a failure in the vertical amp section. One way to troubleshoot it is to get a can of freeze spray and use it on the suspect components. The other way is to inspect all the solder joints on the amp. Last would be to check voltages on the board. Since it does change with run time, it is being affected by heat.
John, Hitachi site is down at the moment, if you remove the clips on the front of the IC`s you will see the numbers of the convergence ic`s, and yes they are a pain to get out, they are probably stk 392-110`s if they are the originals, you`ll have to un-solder 36 pins total to get them out, check for burnt resistors in the general area of the ic`s and replace any that are burnt before turning the set on,be sure to order a tube of "heat sink compound" to apply to the back of the new IC`s, once on the set will probably still look poor, this is normal, run the set for minimum of 15 minutes then push the " magic focus button " inside the front door panel, after it has finished running magic focus it should look great, video-tek
you need a green CRT thats whay you have the white kind of concave lines with the green screen. You can try adjusting the green screen control but you need anew CRT ( tube) the speaker cover has two plastic plugs that get removed on the lower edge os the grille which covers the two screws that hold the grille on. If you need more assistancr or where to get a green CRT let me know as I have a link that has some green and red Tubes for your model.
You have a bad solder connection in the vertical circuit. This will require you to resolder these bad connections before it blows out the vertical output IC or other parts in the circuit. Do this ASAP before you make a small repair into a large one. If you have no solid state printed circuit board experience, please play it safe and take the set into a pro to do this for you. Good Luck
