How do i unlock the bootloader on htc one m8?

Via hardware buttons on phone. Power off phone. Press and hold Vol down, press power button until you see bootloader (3 happy androids on skateboards at bottom of page). Release vol down. Select Factory reset, and just go with it.

Firstly make sure you have fully backed up your phone including the SD card as unlocking will completely reset you phone & wipe the SD Card. remove SD Card if possible, if it's a built in SD Card connect phone to PC via USB & make a copy of it. I can't stress this enough unlocking bootloader & rooting will cause you to lose all the data on your phone & reset it back to Factory Condition.

to unlock bootloader go to this site HTCdev Unlock Bootloader and you will have to register and Select "all other supported models" from Unlock Bootloader drop-down menu. When you get the unlock bin in your email just follow the directions in the email to flash it and unlock your bootloader

It depends on the bootloader of the V3 whether it can be unlocked by software or not without taking the phone apart and doing a "testpoint" or by purchasing an unlock code online (which would be the easiest way). They can be purchased on eBay or other online unlocking sites.
