Hang in there Jerry. We are in the process of taking mine apart today and we now have it completely open to replace the drive belt. I'll be back soon to post details and pictures.

Belt is broken. Not sure how to replace

1. Get a long screw driver (probably phillips head) a strip of tape.
2. Look around underneath your vac for screws... look carefully because sometimes they are sneaky and hidden in weird areas like under the wheels, etc.
3. Take screws out stick them in order on tape turned upwards. (remember how you took them out.)
4. Gently remove the bottom cover.
5. Clean and remove debris, hair, dust bunnies, rocks... whatever.
6. Determine where the belt goes, disengage the beater bar on that side (may need to unscrew something) Belt on beater bar gears. Other end of belt on motor end... then stretch belt with beater bar until it fits back in it's place and replace any screws, etc.
7. Make sure the belt is seated properly.
8. replace cover, screws... test.**

** sometimes belts require that you put a twist in them so it can transition from the motor's direction to the beater bar's direction... if you twist the wrong way... the beater bar will spit dirt out the front of the vac.. (it's bulldozing it) In that case remove cover and twist the belt the other way.

Good luck.

My belt came off its not broken just came off i took the back off i took the top off still cant get to the belt

Frst take the two screws that are exsposed after you remove the lint trap. Next use a flat bade screw driver and insert it in the seam between the front and top approximately 2 inches in from the side. There is a spring clip 2 inches in on each side you have to trip by shoving the screwdriver in about 1 1/4 inches. The easiest way is to tap them with a hammer. (pry upward on the top and lift it all the way up it will be hinged on the back. Now looking down each front corner you will see a 5/16 screw approximately 8 inches down from the top. Remove these screws and the front can be tilted outward and lifted straight up. You will see a door switch and wires attached to the front remove the wires. You need to do this so you can put the belt around the drum and slide it back. You can see where the belt was riding on the drum. Set the front aside and out of your way. (if you are a very flexable person you can replace the belt from the front but us normal human beings have to remove the back) Next go to the back and remove the back panel there are several 5/16 hex head screws around the outside edge of the back panel remove them and set the back panel aside. Inside on the bottom left side as you face the back of the dryer you will see a motor and a tensioner. The tensioner may still be in place it goes in a slot in the bottom of the dryer next to the pulley on the motor. Put the belt on the drum by putting it around the drum from the front. The belt goes around the drum across the pully on the motor with the tensioner and its pully putting tension of the belt to take up any slack. Then just put everything back in reverse order. Make sure the tensioner pully rotates smoothly if it does not this can cause your belt to break or usually get thrown off the pully. Remember to unplug your dryer before starting and clean the excess lint out of the bottom of the dryer as a good prevention to other problems. I hope this helps

Hoover U6637-960 the self propel is not not working. When lowering the handle it acts like it would like to work but the roller will not turn. appears to be something to do with the self propel part of the...

This vac has 2 belts. If both self propel and roller not spinning then most likely it is the wide flat belt broken or off. 4 screws on the bottom should gain you access to the belt area. another issue for this model series is a worn pulley on the roller, a new belt when inserted around the roller should be even with the top of the pulley groove.

Belt is broken

Most upright vacuums will have 2 screws on the bottom of the vacuum. Remove both screws and snap off bottom cover to get inside of the head. Remove old / broken belt and slide agitator off from the head unit. Stretch new belt with both hands then place around the agitator and pulley coming out of the motor. Place the agitator back into place (there will be some resistance from the new belt, but that is common). Put back on the bottom cover and place back the screws. You should be all set then. Hopefully this helps.
