SOURCE: There is freezer burn on chicken in plastic packages

Hello
Welcome to Fixya
My name is Huum,

You need to use good freezer bags and not just plastic bags in the freezer.
And use these products witin six months..
When you put food into a plastic container for the freezer.
you need to burp the container.
That means to hold it with two hands and with one hand raise the corner of the lit a tiny bit while with the other hand you press down on the center of the lid and close the corner quickly so as to have burped out most of the air in the container. a little like a vacuum packed container.
So less air is in the container to cause condensation inside which is the frost you are getting

Good day. My Samsung fridge/freezer SR-S22FTFB runs normal for the first few hours when been switched on, both fridge and freezer temperatures were set for (- 18 and 2), both fans are running and when

Hello Danie;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The normal setting for a freezer is -2 to +2 degrees F., and the normal setting for the fresh food section is +35 to +40 degrees F.

You only have one source of cooling and that is your freezer. With the settings that you have, you are asking your unit to do what it is not designed to do.

The ice maker is struggling because if it is a cast steel ice cube mold, the heater beneath it is not designed for the current to break the ice cubes free @ -18 degrees F., or if you have a plastic flex ice cube mold it is too ridged to flex enough to break the ice cubes free. Normally your ice maker should dump 8-10 times in a 24 hour period.

A note on food storage. Make sure you do not overload your freezer of fresh food section to the point where food product extends beyond the edge of the shelves.

tip

Freezer not working, things to check

The unit needs two fans running and good airflow, one fan outside cools the condensor coil and the other inside the unit blowing across the evaporator coil, warming it. The compressor must start up. The defrost timer stops everything and switches on a heating element to defrost the evaporator for several minutes. Please verify these conditions. The condensor coil may get clogged with dirt and lint, the evaporator may get clogged with ice build up, or the fan may quit working due to bad bearings, need for lubrication, or burn out. The defrost timer has an internal motor and contacts which may quit working, some have a way to manualy turn it to switch its mode in case it quits working.

Hotpoint fridge freezer ff200 tx displays error code A1?

These tempratures are pretty cold should be around 0 deg. but it sounds like you might have a bad defrost timer or defrost thermostat the frost should not come back if defrost system is working

Ffbm 920w won't cool

It appears that your auto defrosting system (if you have one) is not working. So your evaporator coil is frozen up - all that ice serves as an insulator and not enough cold air is getting down into frig section. Until you replace either the freezer defrost element or the defrost timer all you need to do is unplug for a few hours till it fully defrosts then plug back in - will work fine for a few days at normal internal temps till the ice builds up again.

If your timer and defrost element are both working properly, THEN, you might want to check if you have enough refrigerant in the system - you may have a leak.

When I got home I heard the buzzer going off on the freezer..the temperature had dropped from -12 to -2 and I'm trying to reset it to-12 again how do you do that?

You dont have to reset it, you need to defrost it, the defrost element has failed and you have ice build up within the chiller plates, air cant pass through it due to the ice, I think you will find that food is starting to defrost and you will see a bit of ice on the back panel inside the freezer.
Defrost it for 2 days with door open, after that, should work fine for a week or so, very common problem.
Hope that helps, Russ

My freezer started getting a lot of frost and ice around the top close to the henges. Now I am getting a lot of ice in the bottom of this freezer. I can break up the ice and remove it and it will be back...

there are only 2 reasons this happens but one cause (defrost element not working) 1st we check the defrost timer is working if not replace it if it is working go on to the last fault it can be - depending on the freezer it will have 1 or 2 defrost elements when one blows the ice will slowly build up if they both blow then the ice will build up within days unless you know your way around a multimeter it will be very hard to determin witch unit has blown in 70% of cases its the element but a service tech can tell you in a matter of minutes to save you time and money i would get a quote to get a tech in but now you know what to look for

best of luck to you
please remember to rate this repair .thank you
