Hi Cherri,
I think this is the manual for your machine. It should tell you all you need to know:

SOURCE: no spark,craftsman string trimmer

  1. Remove the flywheel cover and pull the ground wire off of the off of the coil...
  2. Check for spark...
  • If you now have spark you have a "short to ground" some where in the in the wiring
  • If you still don't have any spark you'll need to replace the coil

SOURCE: Home lite String Trimmer Won't Start

be sure your kill switch is set to run positon and the wires from it arent grounding theirself out . Make sure your spark plug is
grnded to metal when you check for spark.(ground to head away from the spark plug hole
You may have a bad ignition module if you still have no spark or the flywheel keyway has sheared for some reason throwing it out of timing.(removal of flywheel is required to see if the keyways are aligned flywheel and crankshaft)
If your flywheel seems tight then you may be ok
not a high failure rate but it has happened.Gap your plug at .030 then.025 see if that makes a difference? keep going to a smaller gap to show you may have a weak module not able to jump a wider gap.
just a couple things to check hope this helps maybe

SOURCE: I have an echo mfg'd Echo GT2000 string trimmer

could be but lets try some other things first
On the carb. you have a primer bulb have you pushed that several times and is there gas in the bulb itself?
Are all of your fuel lines intact and not broken or brittle including the primer bulb?
Are you using fresh fuel mixture?
Be sure your stop and run switch is in the run position.
find your air filter and remove the filter itself
then you will be looking at the inlet side of the carb.opening and a orange choke shutter
Take a thimbles full of mixed fuel and pour directly into the carb opening with the choke off( turn trimmer on its side to do this)
now with everything (except for the filter) set to run try to start your trimmer 4 or 5 pulls
does it try to run? runs and shuts off? if so then you have carb. issues
which you can either replace or rebuild
sometimes if you do not want to tackle it yourself then it is less time consuming to replace it
but not cheaper.

hope this helps you some

SOURCE: String-trimmer (weed eater) won't start.

the only thing left is the coil that is inside the cover right next to the flywheel with a gap of 10 thousand of a inch a business card will work but a new coil is almost thr price of a new trimmer unless you have a used one

Testimonial: "Thanks for the help. We did look at the coil. Got about 30 volts out of it when we pulled the starter. I hope that means it's OK."

SOURCE: Ref: Stihl FS46 string trimmer. Broken Flex shaft.

Remove orange sheild, remove single screw holding head in shaft then grab head with pliers and twist side to side until complete head is free. You should then be able to grab part of shaft. On power head loosen screws {about one turn each} that hold two white case halves near trigger,I think there are four, then there is a single torx screw on the bottom of lower case half in the middle that must be taken out to allow tube to be removed.Romove flexshaft from top.Check 4 plastic burnt to flexshaft,if there is you must replace tube liner as well, usally around bent part of tube the liner will go bad.

The trimmer was running fine when I ran out of string. I add new string and now I can NOT get the trimmer to start! I tried unscrewing the spark plug, making contact to the metal of the engine and...

Adding a new string has nothing to do with your spark. If your checking for spark make sure the spark plug is grounded to the engine either use a screwdriver to help you ground it. Lay the plug on the screwdriver shank then pull the cord. If still no spark remove a wire of the ground switch then try again. If you get spark then the switch is the issue if still no spark then you may have to check the leg gap of the coil to the flywheel. Adjust to around 11 thou if you can. If still no spark then i'd go on record to say you have a faulty coil.

I have a mcculloch string trimmer with no spark? Do I have to replace the iginition coil ? No spark at end of spark plug wire.

I am assuming you held the wire near the engine while trying to start it? If so then you need to either replace the ignition coil or hopefully just the spark plug wire.

If the wire is broken it won't spark either. You can check the wire with a multimeter set to resistance (ohms) and check for infinite resistance, if you get infinite then the wire is shot.

HOW DO I INSTALL A NEW STRING IN A PRO CUT 11 for Ryobi RLT30CD trimmer

LINE REPLACEMENT (Fig. 8) (For Reel EasyTM Head) Use 2.4mm monofilament string. Use original manufacturer's replacement string for best performance. n Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. n Cut one piece of string approximately 7.6m in length. n Rotate knob on string head until line on knob aligns with arrows on top of string head. n Insert one end of string into eyelet located on the side of the string head and push until string comes out through eyelet on the other side. Continue to push string through the string head until the middle section of the string is inside the string head and string outside the string head is evenly divided on each side. n Rotate the knob counterclockwise on the string head to wind the string. Wind the string until approximately 20cm remains protruding from the string head. INSTALLING STRING IN PRO CUT II STRING HEAD Use monofilament string between 2.4 mm and 2.7 mm diameter. Use original manufacturer's replacement string for best performance. n Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. n Gather two of the pre-cut lengths of trimmer line provided or cut two pieces of trimmer line, in 28 cm lengths. n Insert the strings into the slots located on the sides of the string head. String should be pushed in until approximately 2 cm protrudes from the holes on the top of the string head. n Remove old string by pulling it from the holes located on the top of the string head. http://www.screwfix.com/sfd/i/cat/pdfs/89/p4763889.pdf

How can I determine if my husqvarna magneto is working?

Remove spark plug from the engine, reconnect it to the plug cap cable which come from the bobin.

Find a piece of steel wire jumper, atleast a foot. Make a jump from the metal body of the plug to the chassis of the engine.

Safety issue: Place the plug away from the spark plug's hole on top of the engine to avoid gas ignite.

Set the trimmer on the floor, set the gap of the spark where visibility while you pull the string.

Pull the start string and the arc could be seen right on the plug gap. Consider an Arc Purple or Blue coloration are good.

If the arc has not been seen, the Magneto need to be serviced.
