I recently purchased a used Belkin F6C800-UNV UPS, and discovered it had bad batteries. I replaced both batteries, and charged the replacement batteries overnight. The UPS appears to be working correctly, except that the UPS output voltage, measured on an externally connected voltmeter, showns 120 VAC when power is on, and only 80 VAC when power is disconnected. When I connect a light to the UPS output, the light doesn't appear to get any dimmer when power is removed from the UPS. My questions, (1) Is the UPC switched output voltage load dependent and is what I am seeing normal, or is there something else wrong with this UPS?

Thanks for your response. I was somewhat reluctant to plug my computer into the UPS and have some catastrophic problem occur because of a severe under voltage situation.

This is normal in some lower end UPS's, the voltage can swing quite a bit, a drop of 40 seems like quite a bit but it's out of the question. It will also adapt to what is plugged in yes. Ultimately to test you would want to try it with something like an actual PC plugged in and make sure it stays running. I'd say otherwise it sounds normal to me.

This model generates a modified AC waveform using a switch which generates a square wave. This techniques probably explains the lower than expected RMS voltage measurement.

BELKIN UPS DOES NOT WORK

If the device is over a few years old, then the batteries are probably dead. If so, they can be replaced. Below link shows some photos of the device once opened.

How long do batteries last

If they cannot hold the charge or do not charge then get rid of the thing and get a new one. Should be much cheaper than when you bought the one you have now.
