It might. Mounting holes match? Shaft diameter and adapter match? Power supply sufficient for 5HP motor? It's a big motor! You might get a better answer from the ebay supplier.
Testimonial: "Mounting holes do match and I do have sufficient power supply to run a 7.5 hp single phase motor. Now in regards shaft and adapter that's a good question !!! I just purchased this compressor and it came with a none matching fried 3 hp 1 phase motor on it. Original motor long gone. I do know this compressor originally came with a 10 hp 3 phase motor on it. How important is it to know the shaft diameter on the original motor ?"

How do you drive compressor? If belt drive, not a problem, just match belt sizes and appropriate diameter of pully. If direct drive that's when its a problem. If original was 7.5 hp, depending on speeds you need to drive the compressor slower to compensate for lower horsepower.
