I have a dish vip612 dvr which suddenly turned off and the cooling fan came on. I can't turn the unit on to do anything. If I shut off power and turn the power back on. the fan runs and the unit will not turn on. Is this a common problem?

To whom it may concern,

You're likely either experiencing overheating or power cycling.
Put the receiver into a well circulated area, and let it cool down. If this does not alleviate your problem you will need a replacement box. Be sure to set up insurance for your account before you ask for a new box to be sent.

There are two possibilities. One, the receiver is too hot or too cold. If the receiver is over 140 degrees or under 41 degrees Fahrenheit it will do this. Make sure it is not too crowded, has room above and beneath (I had to set books under the corners of mine to prevent this issue) for air to circulate, and that there is not too much dust and debris blocking the air vents, or fan exhaust. Also make sure that the receiver is not too close to an air vent or heater that could be overheating it. The problem should be gone as soon as the unit comes to the right temperature zone.
Second, the unit may need to be replaced because a problem has occurred with its power. It could be a surge without a sufficient surge protector (not all power strips are surge protectors, and many surge protectors will continue to function after a surge and a reset.) or a fault within the unit. The only resolution is a new receiver, and all existing recordings are lost. Warning, a replacement receiver will be provided, but in the little itty bitty writing makes you responsible for a damaged receiver. They will test your receiver when it is sent back to them, and if it was a surge fault, or dust/debris accumulation inside the receiver they will charge you for the replacement, and a ViP 612 is about $199 (last I checked).

The problem you're having is known as power cycling and it can only be resolved by replacing the receiver. Unfortunately it depends on which model receiver you have.

SOURCE: DISH DVR doesn't respond to remote

  1. If this is a TV2 location take the remote to the location of the DVR.
  2. Open the door on the right side of your receiver.
  3. Press SYS INFO.
  4. Press Record multiple times on your remote.
  5. Exit the screen and see if the remote works, if not replace the batteries and repeat steps 1-4
  6. If the remote still doesnt work, and this is a tv2 location (no receiver in the room with the tv) check the antenna on the back of your receiver, make sure that it is connected tightly and standing straight up.
  7. If none of this works call Dish and ask for a new remote.

SOURCE: Fan on Dish Network's VIP722k

Hello, this is Nick Franta with DISH Network Customer Support.

It is normal for the fan on the 722k receiver to run often to cool down the system. If the receiver is in an enclosed space that could cause the receiver to overheat which would make the fan run continuously.

If you have any further questions let us know.

SOURCE: today I get home and my dish dvr has a loud fan

Hello this is Nick Franta with DISH Network.

The DVR fan does typically runs most of the time the receiver is on (or recently turned off). Since the DVR controls the option of stopping live programming and skipping back it is always in use so the fan will continually run. If the sound continues non-stop for the next 48-72 hours we may want to send a replacement receiver for you. You can contact me at [email protected] if it does continue to be troublesome.

SOURCE: Connect a Dish VIP622 to a DVD/VCR

Hi piautewith the VIP622 receiver connecting to your DVD/VCR player you will need theinput/output jacks. To setup recordings to your VCR/DVD player, you will want torun from receiver output to VCR/DVD input and from VCR/DVD output to TV input. Thefan on the VIP622 receiver is just like the fan in a computer tower. Even ifthe receiver is off the fan will still run to keep unit the right temperature foryour DVR receiver. DISH VIP612 Program AUX Remote Code 2

DISH Solo DVR VIP612 Program AUX Remote Code

7c06801.jpg

Would you like to program the Universal Remote that came with your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 to control your receiver, tuner, stereo, second TV or second VCR using your remote's AUX mode? (Instructions to setup a primary TV or a VCR are a little different, but can be found here.)

e818a57.jpg

To setup your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote, follow these steps to enter the remote control codes to control a device with the AUX mode:

  1. Turn the device you would like to control on.
  2. Find the brand name of the device you would like to control in the control code tables on page 112 of the Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 User Manual.
  3. Press and hold the AUX mode button until all the other buttons light up, and then let go. The AUX mode button will flash.
  4. Press 0 for a TV, 1 for a VCR, or 2 for a receiver, amplifier or tuner.
  5. Enter one of the three-digit codes from the tables in the manual.
  6. Press POUND (#). The mode button will flash three times.
  7. Press POWER to turn off the device. If the device does not turn off, skip to step 9.
  8. Turn the device back on and try some of the other buttons to make sure they work. If the code works, stop here.
  9. If the code didn't work, repeat steps 3 through 7 with the next device code from the tables in the manual.
Your device control codes for your amplifier or other AUX device are now programmed into your DISH Solo DVR ViP 612.

Now you probably want to set your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote up so that it always controls the volume of your stereo, rather than of your TV, regardless of whether it is in SAT, TV, VCR or AUX mode. Help for this remote control programming can be found here.

(Help for programming a TV or VCR using the TV or VCR mode buttons can be found here.)

I hope that helps.
