My 2005 Ford Freestar was making a slipping noise, so I took it to Ford. They said the major component in my transmission isn't working and I need a new transmission. Ford said they would charge me $6,520 and I also need a right axle, for $2,500, whatever that is. I have been calling around and I wanted to know if the going rate of $1500 is average? I just fixed a major oil leak, transmission leak and replaced the battery. Now, the transmission???? I don't want a car note and I can't trust buying a new van for cash because the trans or engine could be bad. Ugh!!! I'm sooo lost!

I went to the junk yard, they have a mechanic. The mechanic told me $900 for the transmission and $600 for labor. Ford never gave me the codes from the diagnostic testing they did, I didn't have any light on before Ford worked on it. I'm stumped! I am going to look for another vehicle because I am scared of putting a new transmission in and then something happens to the engine.

REbuilt Transmission for Ford should be At MAX $3.000. And add another $500 for the 6 Hours it should take to install "Ford Time"...

OR go to a normal Trans shop and pay $2000 or less and that Should include the Install.. However What is the Trans Actually Doing? Is the Overdrive light Flashing?? AS for the Axle, Autozone wants under $100 for the Axle And if You want NEW I'm sure I could get it for you for less then 500 and the install for most people are around $150.00 ...

The car is overall in good condition, I just spent $455 for a massive oil leak, ABS repair, new battery, fixed a transmission leak and now a transmission??? I am thinking about looking for another van this weekend.

Don't go to ford dealer ship.they are very expensive.Do you have wrecking yards in your area take a visit there for a used transmission.I'm sure it will be a lot cheaper than what you have been quoted. Also have a local mechanic to do the fittings for you.by doing the shoping your self you will save a lot of money.Ebay has answers for you,do some research.....

Thank you Jacob, I didn't think about Ebay.

SOURCE: trans slip when pulling toy hauler

Heat is killing your transmission. Change the transmission oil and filter and slow down. Pulling something that heavy is best with a manual transmission.

Have the car put up on a lift, or over a pit for inspection.

My 2007 ford Freestar squeals every time I accelerate

sounds like it may be nothing more than a lose belt. have a mechanic check the belt tension. You can check the tension yourself by pressing down on each belt with the engine off. If the belt moves more than an inch or so it should be tightened. Only other explanation would be a transmission slip.
