Please help by clarifying what part you are calling a drum.

If it is the drum in the toner cartridge, then there is 50/50 chance of cleaning it successfully with alcohol and a very soft cloth,
perhaps a qtip dipped in it. If this doesnot do it then you should just repalce the toner cartidge which houses the drum.

If it is the FUSER then you will have to just replace the fuser. Sometime the fuser is reffered to as the drum by some

On an HP 2430 printer I get a 59.60 printer error. What does this mean? It printer one page of a large doc then stoppedand shows this error message on the printer display.

I get a wide line of messy spotty printing on the left edge margin of all prints (where there is no printing). Is there an easy way to clean or must I call a technician.
Remove the cartridge, turn it upside down and swing the drum cover back. If the drum is clean, the marks are coming from the fuser.

Probably a bad FUSER. The teflon is probably worn off.

Also take out the toner and move the drum cover aside to look at the drum..It should be clean.

2430 printing 1/2 inch marks down left side of page
Did you change the Toner cartridge? If that did not fix it :
Then the Fuser needs replacing. If you take the Fuser out from the rear, and rotate the drum in it, you will see the marks. You can try to clean it but experience shows that you will have to replace it.
