To correct this, follow the steps outlined below from RIM:

1. If not already installed, download BlackBerry Device Software and BlackBerry Desktop Manager from the wireless service provider web site.

2. Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager and then install the BlackBerry Device Software.

3. Use Application Loader to reload the software on the BlackBerry device.

But, if it is on warranty, it is better you go for a replacement.

The JVM Error 517 is a java problem, the solution is to re-install the Operating System via your Blackberry Desktop Manager.

i have the same phone. its JVM error 102 and you'll also get uncaught exception java.lang errors more than likely. its caused by a coruption in the software. its nothing you did, the software just failed. you can call your provider and do an exchange but it takes forever!! if you have a computer you can run the application loader and it will 100% FIX the issues. it saves all your info, wipes the old software, and reloads all the brand new software. this is from tmobiles website t-mobile.com/forums

Hello,

the JMV 517 error code is as a result of software corruption. One way or the other, your Blackberry's operating system file has be corrupt.

Your Blackberry OS needs to be reinstalled in order for the problem to be solved. You will need Blackberry Desktop Manager installed on a computer, download the latest device software from your carrier website and perform a clean reload of the device software. Note that due to the JVM error(s) , unless you have done a backup of your personal data of have contacts on a SIM card, you WILL LOOSE all personal data on the device.

If your Desktop Manager can't recognise your device, you will need to contact your Carrier and have a Technical Support Agent assist you.

have you contacted blackberry for a sol'n? i really like my bb, this is my first one also. take the battery out for maybe 30 min and try again. i don't know it the disk will fix the prob. if bb won't give you one, leave a message & i can send you a copy of mine. might help.
