Check your charger and battery contacts. Cleaning battery contacts on the radio and charger with a pencil eraser will remove dust, dirt, debris, and hand oil which may cause the battery to charge poorly. Secondly, you might want to check that your charger itself is working properly. If you have a second known good radio you might try charging it on the same charger.

Best regards.

SOURCE: Batteries won't charge on new cobra 2VP 270 radios

If radios are brand new then I would take them back to the store for warranty exchange. The other opton is to vist a local radio service center and ask the tech to jump the battery. if the battery falls below a certain voltage it might need a quick jump sart from a power supply with a higher voltage normally 12 volts works well...

SOURCE: I BUY 2 WAY RADIOS MOTOROLA XU2100 OFTEN BUT

1) Clean all your battery contacts with a pencil eraser. This includes the contacts on the charger (if a drop-in style), battery and the radio.

2) Check your battery date code. It is a 4 digit number on the white portion of your battery. The first two numbers are the year, followed by the week of the year. (Example: 0946 would be 2009 the 46th week.) Your battery pack should be less than 2 years old to work correctly.

3) Check to see you are using the correct charger. The XTN style charger should have a white label on the cord indicating it is for the XTN radio.

You most likely have batteries which are failing or shorted out. It would be advisable to remove them from the radio and replace them with new batteries. Continued charging of shorted/bad batteries will damage your radio.

Best regards.

SOURCE: I just put new batteries

The radios will work fine while being charged, but they will charge faster if turned off. Normal charging time is 8-10 hours, but I would recommend an overnight charge - they won't overcharge or be damaged by the longer charge time.

HELLO THERE AND WELCOME TO FIXYA
This is a fairly common issue with these radios
The thing about these radios is that the batteries are made to be able to charge for long periods of time HOWEVER the battery will begin to lose its charging capabilities due to long periods of charging then will get overcharged and then they are bad after that so you may have several charges on it then all of the sudden it no longer charges this is a sign of overcharging
what you can do to check is to take the battery out and use a multimeter to test the charge on the battery then test the charger to test it as well to ensure it is charging properly
If the battery is bad you should be able to go to radio shack or any good radio dealer and get a replacement battery or you can order one thru the radios manufacture ok?
Hope this helps please post me back if yo need further assistance or have any more questions ok?
Best regards mike

How do i charge my cobra hand held radio

According to Cobra's website, if you are charging the batteries (or battery pack) that came with the radio, charging should take about 15-hours.

If your model came with the desktop charging stand, they state that it is safe to leave them in the stand without fear of over-charging. If your model uses a power cord that you plug into the radio, then they state that you should not leave it connected to the charger for more than 24-hours.

If you follow the link below, it will take you to the Cobra website, where you should be able to download a copy of the manual for your radio. Find your model in the list, then select the "Details" button for that model. A new page will open then select the "Product Specifications" tab, and you will find a link to download the manual.

Cobra Two-Way Radio Page

Hope that helps you out.

Package, manuel and receipt were accidentally thrown away and we don't know how to charge the radios. They work, but are running low on battery power! They have a power supply cord that you plug both...

From what I just read on the Cobra website, you may be misinterpreting the battery indicator lights:

My radio keeps showing low batteries

This may simply be a matter of misinterpreting the low-battery indicator. We use two different types of battery indicators:
  1. Battery Level Indicator: This battery indicator is always visible, and has several segments. When all the segments are lit, the batteries are full. When only the last segment is lit, the batteries are almost exhausted.
  2. Low Battery Indicator: This type is usually NOT visible. It only appears when the batteries are low, at which time it flashes on the display to warn you of a low battery condition.
Please note that when you turn on your radio it first performs a display test. Everything on the display will light up for a few seconds, including the Low Battery Indicator. This does not mean that the batteries are low. After a few seconds the display test will end, at which time the Low Battery Indicator should go away.

Here is a link to the Manual for your radio:

https://www.cobra.com/downloads/manuals/PR260WX_MANL.pdf

It is a PDF file, which requires that you have Adobe Reader or equivalent installed on your computer for it to open and display properly. If you don't have it, it can be found here (it's free!):

Good luck!

I have the Cobra micro Talk LI6000-2 (14 Channels) 2-Way Radios and one turns on and charges and the other will not turn on for anything. They will not charge unless turned on and on the charger; so one is...

  • The fact that these turn on while on the charger is an indicator that the batteries are just that far gone. Depending on how much you like these radios vrs the cost of a new set is something to think about.

  • This link is where you can get a reliable battery replacement.

  • I use a newer Midland talk around for camping, hiking etc. The thing I always look for in a talk around radio is if the manufacturer battery goes bad or runs dry can I use some batteries at home with it? I like the fact I can put 4AA batteries of the shelf in my radio in an emergency. And when the stock battery gores kaput, I can use some AA rechargeable batteries I already have at home and save on replacing the battery or radio. Something to think about should you decide to get a different radio set.
