Alarm light

Paper Jam:
Clear the paper jam.
If the printer does not automatically resume printing, press the control panel button.
No Paper/ Misfeed:
  • The paper cassette may be out of paper or not properly installed.
If it is empty, load a new stack of paper into the paper cassette.
If there is paper in the paper cassette, make sure it is straight.
If the paper is curled, straighten it before printing. Sometimes it is helpful to remove the paper, turn the stack over and put it back in the paper cassette.
  • Reduce the amount of paper in the paper cassette, and then try again.
  • Make sure you use paper that meets Brother's recommended paper specifications.
  • Re-install the paper properly, and then press the control panel button. The printer will start printing again.

I don't have the manual and the red light is on. Is that the toner needing replacing and how do I do it?

Here are the things that a steady red light may indicate (from the Owner's Manual):

led-erroron17.jpg A paper jam has occurred. To solve the problem, see "Clearing Jams in the Paper Tray". The front cover is open. Close the front cover. The top cover is open. Close the top cover. The paper tray is empty. Load paper in the tray. See "Loading Paper". A toner cartridge is not installed. Install a toner cartridge. See "Installing the Starter Toner Cartridge".
• A paper jam has occurred. Check the paper tray area.
• The front cover is open. Close the front cover.
• The top cover is open. Close the top cover.

I don't know how to install the paper

Place the paper in the tray on the bottom of the printer. When a printer says "Install the paper" It doesn't really mean to install per say.. just means to put paper into the tray.

Printer is not running while the power cord is ok.

Epson says....
Why is the printer beeping three times and the Paper Out light is on?

This indicates that the printer is out of paper. Make sure the paper release lever is in the correct position, then install the paper and try printing.

Installing paper

The printer loads paper from the installed paper tray or the manual feed slot.
For ordinary tasks, though, you would use the paper tray. This is located in the bottom front of the printer and looks as a kind of drawer. Pull it open to feed the paper.

You can download the User's Manual for your printer from Brother:
http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users%20Manual/UM_HL_2140_2170W_EN_1160.PDF

I am assuming you have a printer

Installing paper

Some machines have a lever on the side where the paper goes I'm not sure this one does but if it does pull the lever towards the front of the machine load paper then push lever back then you are done.

If the machine hasn't got a lever then some machines will need the start button or stop button to bee pressed after the paper has been installed.

Hope this helps you
Thanks J
