Wireless radio (wireless LAN) switch is located along the slim front edge of the laptop at the right-hand end. It is an actual on/off switch. It is clearly shown in the diagram on Page 14 of the User Guide:

There doesn't seem to be a switch, but try holding Fn and hitting whichever F key (above the number row) corresponds with the wireless radio to turn it on or off.

Sony vaio online help

There is usually a button on wireless routers that puts them in to "discover" mode. You did not mention the wireless router you have so you'll need to locate the button on it by a visually looking for it or reading the manual. Once it's in this mode, you extender should begin to communicate with it and vice versa.
Although not a requiredment...it is highly recommended to have the extender and your wireless router from the same manufacturer. Mixing and matching will probably lead to miscommunications of both devices.

I have a gateway laptop computer thats wireless. everytime i trye to connect wireless it say make sure switch is on. I was told by the company theres no switch to turn on I have to manualy enter in...

If there is no physical switch, look at the top of your keyboard. You should be looking at the "F" keys ( F!, F2, F3 etc or the number keys (1-2-3-4-5-etc) You should see a little symbol which looks kind of like this ))) (It will be 3 ('s starting small and getting progressively bigger) this is your wireless switch.....hold down the ctrl key and hit this button (Depending on the model, you might have to hold down ctrl, alt or shift) I run into this all of the time....Your manual should give you this info. If you dont have one, go to dells website and download one...it's free. Hope this helps

How do I turn the radio on the wireless card

When your computer is switched on, the WiFi radio is almost always transmitting or receiving signals. In certain situations, as in an airplane, signals from the radio may cause interference. Use the following methods if you need to disable the radio and use your notebook without emitting radio signals.
Use the Optional Computer Radio On or Off Switch

If your computer has an external switch installed, use it to switch the WiFi radio on or off. See the computer manufacturer for more information about this switch. If you have Intel® PROSet/Wireless installed, the current state of the radio displays in the Intel PROSet/Wireless main window and on the Taskbar.

Use Intel PROSet/Wireless to Switch the WiFi Radio On or Off

From Intel PROSet/Wireless, the WiFi radio can be switched on or off. The status icon on Intel PROSet/Wireless displays the current state of the radio.

To start Intel® PROSet/Wireless, use one of the following methods:
  • Click Start > Programs > Intel PROSet Wireless > WiFi Connection Utility.
  • Right-click the Taskbar icon prosettaskbaricon1.jpg located in the lower right corner of your Windows* Desktop to open the Taskbar menu. Click Configure WiFi.
  • Double-click the Taskbar icon to open Intel PROSet/Wireless.
Switch the WiFi Radio On or Off from the Taskbar Icon

To switch the WiFi radio on or off, click the Taskbar icon image1_ipswtaskbaricon.jpg and select WiFi On or WiFi Off.

How to use the Device Manager to Disable the WiFi Radio

The WiFi radio can be disabled (made non-functional) from the Windows* Device Manager.

Note: If you disabled the WiFi radio from Windows*, then you must use Windows to turn the radio on. You cannot use a hardware switch or Intel PROSet/Wireless to enable the radio again.

Windows* XP
  1. From your desktop, right-click My Computer.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click Hardware.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Double-click Network adapters and expand the selection by clicking the Plus symbol.
  6. Right-click the installed WiFi adapter.
  7. Choose Disable from the menu.
  8. Click OK.
Windows Vista*
  1. Use Control Panel > Mobile PC > Adjust commonly used mobility settings (if you use Classic View, select Control Panel > Power Options.

Wireless radio disabled

If you have a laptop and it has built in wireless adapter, it may have a switch or a button that you need to switch on in to turn on the wireless connection radio. Usually, it can be found on the sides or on the front panel of the laptop. On other laptops, you will need to hit some combination of keys on the laptop's keyboard to turn on the wireless connection radio, for example, Fn+F5. Please refer to the manual of your laptop for reference on how to turn on or enable its wireless radio.

By the way, what is the model of your laptop?
