Oh oh big trouble...make sure you installed correctly re check ever thing is there a twist in the belt? not riding true on idler pully? correct belt?is belt cutting into guard housing any where? is the belt making howling noise? use veernier caliper to check dimensions of old belt to new belt.I once x out a drive belt with a generic one that did the same thing. my solution dont buy cheap chinese belts stick to OME belts as the chinese ones may not fit as intended.

SOURCE: Troybilt pony wont go into drive.

Not technically a solution, but there are Troybuilt tiller forums out there on the net. MTD bought them out some years back and some parts are still available. I had to go thru them to find a part number for a mid 80's Horse unit that had a broken drive coupling. Anyways, they have parts breakdowns and manuals on their site. And I've seen some on ebay if you need parts.

How to replace the clutch pedal spring on a 2017 Troybilt pony

Here are the general steps for replacing the clutch pedal spring on a 2017 Troybilt Pony lawn tractor:
  1. Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake and stop the engine.
  2. Locate the clutch pedal spring. The spring is typically located on the left side of the tractor, connecting the clutch pedal to the clutch linkage.
  3. Use pliers to remove the spring from the pedal and linkage.
  4. Compare the new spring to the old one to ensure that they are the same size and shape.
  5. Install the new spring by connecting one end to the clutch pedal and the other end to the linkage.
  6. Test the clutch pedal to make sure it moves smoothly and returns to the proper position when released.
  7. If the clutch pedal still not working properly or is hard to press, you may want to check the clutch linkage and make sure it's not binding or damaged.
It's important to follow the manufacturer's recommended intervals for replacing the clutch pedal spring, and to use the correct replacement part recommended by the manufacturer.
Keep in mind that these are general instructions, and the specific steps for replacing the clutch pedal spring may vary depending on the make and model of your tractor. It's always recommended to consult the owner's manual or contact the manufacturer for specific instructions or guidance.

I need to replace the transmission drive belt and need instructions

There's actually a Troy-Bilt Pony riding lawn mower as well.  If yours is like ours, a model 13AN77TG766 [URL:http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/DocGetter?doc=769-02243a.pdf], it doesn't actually have gears but rather a variable-speed pulley.  The lever on the dashboard actually controls how high the brake pedal will go, while the brake pedal controls the position of the variable-speed pulley, which controls the effective gearing ratio.  That's how it can go at any speed with the engine still going at the same rate and without having to disengage a clutch.

So perhaps your mower is engaging the parking brake too early (page 17 of our manual).  The other thing I can think of is grass in the variable-speed pulley.  To check that, remove the spark plug and the battery (7/16-inch socket).  Then move the shift lever through its full range and check the shaft of the variable-speed pulley (part 63 on page 34) for debris, both above and below the loose plate thingy.  (You should be able to turn it quite easily if you put the forward/reverse lever in neutral.)

    Hope that helps!
