I have reset and downloaded my drive connect to the computer. But to no avail as my computer will not recognised the new hardware that is connected via a usb cable. Anyone with an answer. As this is driving me insane

Dont use a HUB, connect it directly to the PC.
Reset the unit by pushing a bent paperclip or pin into the hole on the bottom marked 'reset' turn it back on, plug it in & charge it via USB overnight or as long as you can in the car, make sure the led on the top is green, tap the bottom right of the screen & check the battery symbol on the unit says charging underneath.
If this doesn't help.
contact them about the problem...

It sounds like your mini usb connector is damaged. If you're handy you can buy a replacement and solder it in. You will need a very fine tip soldering iron and a magnifying glass. The repair can be quite challenging as the components are surface mounted.
Otherwise I can fix it for you for a small fee.
I've repaired about 20 tomtom units with similar problems. I charge around £35 for this including return postage
