How can I determine which Sigma and Tamron lenses will work with my Nikon D3200? (I know they have to fit my Nikon F mount.)

I want to be able to get a variety of cheap used lenses to play around with and try other types of photography, but don't know how to determine which ones will work. I want to make sure all functions will be supported. If they won't autofocus that's ok, but I want to be able to determine that before I purchase them. Thanks!!

There are three things you have to consider when getting lenses for the D3200.

First, you already know that the lens has to have the Nikon F mount.

Second, in order to autofocus, the lens must have a focus motor since the D3200 doesn't have one itself. Sigma designates lenses with the focus motor as HSM. Tamron designates theirs as USD. Lenses that don't have the focus motor will still work with the D3200, you just have to focus manually.

Third, the lens must have the electronics to communicate with the camera in order for the exposure meter to work. Any Sigma or Tamron lenses designed for digital cameras will have the electronics. Older mechanical lenses, including those from Nikon, will still work with the D3200, but you must set the exposure manually, without any help from the camera's light meter.

SOURCE: Nikon 18-55 zoom lens doesn't autofocus

You might like to check if the A/M slider switch on the lens by the Nikon label is set to A.
It sometimes gets moved accidently.
Set to M the lens will not autofocus.

SOURCE: sigma 70-300mm f-5.6 DG APO lense does it fit in

Yes, it will fit your camera perfectly as Sigma only supply this particular model with the Nikon mounting (see Sigma website and also their lens compatibility chart).

SOURCE: my Nikon 55-200mm will not function in autofocus

hi there,

i`ve once experienced the same problem as your,
the reason was the motor in the lens. it couldn`t work normally
to trouble shoot this, you should contact a professional service technician,
and i hope the lens is still in warranty condition

thanks

Is the Tamron AF08N700 auto focus with the D90?

Good morning. You have likely already gotten an answer to this, but yes, it will.

Unlike less expensive models such as the D40, D60, D3000 and D5000, the D90 has a built in autofocus motor, which means that all Nikon F-mount autofocus-lenses (except two for the rare Nikon F3AF) can be used in autofocus mode for all newer generation autofocus lenses like the Tamron 200-800. However, you may want to look around a bit, as Tamron has come out with a new 150-600 lens that is simply terrific (I know, I own one) and the Big Sig from Sigma is equally great.

FYI

Good luck.

Can I use Vivitar Mc 50mm F1.7 Lens on Nikon D3200 ?

Vivitar makes lenses with a variety of lens mounts to fit different brands of cameras. If the lens has a Nikon mount then it will work on the D3200. If it has some other mount then it will not work.

"I also purchased a Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter, Tamron Adaptall II Lens to Nikon Camera. The Tamron lens still will not fit

What mount do you have on the Tamron lens? (The built-in mount.) If it has a Nikon mount, you don't need an adapter at all. If it has the Adaptall mount then the adapter should fit onto the back of the lens, then the combo should fit onto your Nikon camera. If the lens has a different mount then nothing you can do will make it fit.

Does the adapter fit onto the lens?

Does anyone know how I can attach my tamron 70-210 lens on to my Nikon N2020??

That depends on the lens mount. Tamron makes lenses for a variety of cameras. If it has a Nikon mount, it fits onto the N2020 just like a Nikon lens. If it has, say, a Canon mount, then it won't fit at all.

I have a nikon d60... is the tamron 70-300 zoom lens compatible ?

Tamron makes their lenses with a variety of mounts. A lens with a Canon mount, for example, will not fit a Nikon. Assuming the lens has a Nikon mount then yes, it is compatible with the D60. However, the D60 lacks an autofocus motor, relying on the lens to have one. Some Tamron lenses have such a motor, some do not. Such lenses will not autofocus with the D60, but everything else still works, including manual focus.

Wil the Tamron AF 80-210mm 1:4.5-5.6 fit on my Nikon D3000 and if so how does it perform?

Assuming the lens has a Nikon mount, it will fit on the D3000. Tamron makes their lenses with a variety of mounts, so that one with a Canon mount, for example, won't fit onto a Nikon body.

This lens lacks an autofocus motor so you'll have to focus manually. Other than that, it will work fine. It's not the sharpest lens available, but it's also not the most expensive.

Will a Nikon Sigma 70-210 work on my nikon D60??

Assuming the lens has a Nikon mount, then it will fit and work on the D60. Sigma makes lenses for a variety of cameras; a lens with a Canon mount, for example, will not fit onto a Nikon camera. However, the 70-210 is a rather old lens. Unless it specifies "HSM" it will not autofocus on the D60. The D60 does not have an autofocus motor, relying on the lens to have one. Nikon calls such lenses "AF-S" while Sigma designates theirs "HSM".

How do i attach my sigma lens to my nikon d300

I'm going to assume the Sigma lens has a Nikon mount. If it has any other mount then it won't fit on a Nikon camera.

Align the mounting mark on the lens with the mark on the camera body (at about the two-o'clock position). Push the lens into the mount then twist the lens counterclockwise until it clicks in place.

It's the exact same procedure you would use with a Nikon lens.

Can you fit a sigma fit lens onto a nikon f mount camer. i have some great lenses on my old sd 10 but have gone over to nikon cameras

If the lenses were for the Sigma camera, then unfortunately, they will not fit onto a Nikon camera. Sigma makes lenses for various different mounts; the operative word is "different."

What type of lens works with this Nikon N8008s AF 35mm SLR? Thank you, Larry

Any of the Nikon Auto Focus(AF) lenses should work fine with it. There are also a number of fine aftermarket lenses made for your 8008, by Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Quantaray and others. Be sure you get the Nikon AF lenses, as they make the same lenses for Sony and Canon. You cannot use the Lenses made for another brand, as they will not fit, work right, and can damage your Nikon.
