Help! When we transfer a call to an extension that is set-up to go to a cell phone. the cell phone receiver has issues picking up the line. The automated systems says to "Press 1" to pick up the line. The receiver press's 1 but the call gets dropped.
I want to make sure I understand this completely. You get no dial tone from the fax machine when hooked up to VOIP. In the past, was there an audible dial tone from the fax, or did it just dial silently and give you an error if there was no tone?
When you said you got a dial tone by connecting a phone to the ext phone port of "the machine" did you mean the fax machine? If you get a dial tone by running a phone through the fax machine, then the line is good. I have used a fax machine over Sunrocket before they went defunct, which used the same technology base as Vonage - so it should work.
If you used to get an audible dial tone when using the fax, and no longer do, and you are geting a dial tone on a regular phone that is connected to the ext. port of the fax machine, then the problem has to be in the fax machine itself, not the VOIP.
If you can verify that, we can go from there.

Lets say that you currently pick up line 1 to make an outgoing call,
but you want to pick up your last line (in this case we will say we have
6 phone lines).
This feature is called "Auto line select"
To program Auto line select:
From extension 10 or 11:
Press feature 00
LEFT INTERCOM
LEFT INTERCOM
RIGHT INTERCOM
Enter the extension number of the extension you need changed.
press ** (start, star)
Then the order you want the lines to get picked up
Then ** (star, star) when done
When finished, press feature 00 to get out of programming.
So, in this example I would enter my extension number (22) and press
** (star, star) and press line 6, line 5, line 4, line 3, line 2, and
line 1. Then I press ** (start, star) to signify that I am done
programming Auto Line Select. And feature 00 to get out of programming.
Easy as pie.
From ext 10 or 11: press feature 00 press left intercom twice press right intercom once enter extension number press ** then press the lines in the order you want them picked up (line 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 then the intercom ) press** press feature 00 to exit programming.
When the extension picks, it will pick up line 5. If 5 is busy, it will pick up line 4 , etc....
do you mean the fax line is shared with the phone line, and you want the machine to pick up faxes when necessary, and let phone calls go?
If that's the case, this mahcine is designed to be on a dedicated line. In other words, there is not setting for "distinctive ring", or to set the # of rings to pick up. It will answer any call coming in. The only thing you can do is set it to "manual receive", under "user tools", "fax features", and then you could use it for sending faxes, but it will not receive unless you switch it to fax, and press the "on hook" button.
It is your phone answering machine that must pick up in three rings or less.
Therefore 4 is too much. I would not limit number for fax machine itself.
On receipt of fax sometimes seems like it will not work when answering machine picks up in the middle. However, leave it and it will work. Sometimes sender will hear your answering machine and cancel as well. So try to ensure they don't give up at other end as well.
first make sure there is a dial tone on the line, next reset up the machine in send and receive mode. if all of this fails, then you have a bad ncu board which is the phone board
The plug going into the phone was not secure. Once it was fully plugged in it was operational. I was making a big problem out of a little one. I thought in cleaning the phone without unplugging it first I somehow messed with the programming. I was wrong. Thanks for trying to help.
First this is a good machine, I use the same one and have my fax setup for the same thing. If you have a (TAD) Telephone Answering Device first you have to set up your phone to pick up before the fax, do this by setting the phone to pick up on three rings and the fax to pick up on four. Go to Menu/Fax/Setup Receive/Ring Delay. While there make sure Easy Receive is on. The machine itself will distinguish between regular calls and facsimiles and will display this info at the time of the call on its LCD screen, make sure you are using the line connection and not the phone connection. Hope this helped.
Sounds like you have two seperate line groups programmed in the system, Program 32 " Automatic Preference " controls the lines the phone will automatically be connected to when the telephone handset is taken off hook or the Spkr button is used.
