I have had an intermittant flushing problem with this toilet for the last 4 years. It finally stopped flushing properly 2 days ago. I almost tore the toilet apart checking everything until I was at my last check point and that was the the jet hole in the bottom of the bowl. American Standard advises to use a screw driver to clean it out and do not put your finger in it. I had no screw driver that short so I used my finger and found the hole large enough to put my finger in. I immediately felt something that had been causing my intermittant flushing problem these past 4 years. It took me about 45 minutes to get out a 1 inch white plastic disc that was just bigger than the jet hole so it could never make it thru. It is the same disc that is used to keep the flush valve float at the proper level in the tank. This disc was white and the ones that came with the unit were yellow. I had to use a 3 inch pair of pliers that my wife had for her sewing machine to get ahold of it and pull it out. Conclusion was that this got into the lower half of the toilet at the factory. This may be why I have been reading that so many people are having this flushing problem with this model toilet. Anyway, it is fixed now and running as advertised. Hope this helps somebody else to keep from pulling your hair out.
American Standard 2474016.222 also had the same problem mine had two discs apparently on efrom factory perhaps and one from the floating disc that must have fallen off I used a screw to get them out adn drained as much water as possible then went back and forth adding water a little at a time and then using a tolwel to sponge the water out (no shop vac around) After findign one I then found the other. This post saved me sooo much money adn I have dealt with the intermittant problem for years in this spare bathroom THANK YOU SO MUCH
My patent is an over-flow tube for “water-saver” toilets. After being tormented by toilets that leaked and needed at least 2 flushes, I finally came up with an easy fix without taking off the water tank. It’s called NuFlush. I now have it on my website (NuFlush.com) and also on eBay. My house is only 5 years old and all of my over-flow tubes in the water-saver toilets were only 5.25 inches long. This can happen when toilet is being installed too.And if you use those bluing mints in tank make sure to keep them away from flapper,they can get pushed in to bowl.
