Tdi goes into limb mode some times
Limp mode is most commonly related to the ECU not reading enough boost coming from the turbo. This usually occurs from a sticky actuator from driving too slow (not opening up the turbo enough) a dry rot vacuum line or a bad n70 solenoid that controls the actuator.
Of course without a CEL Code I can only give you general advice on what is wrong with the car; As a bad automatic could also put you into limp mode
Citroen Picasso 2001 HDI limp mode How to fix it
The ABS system may cause a vehicle to go into limp mode if it is defective. Most times that will happen if your ABS light is lit up on your dash board!

Try removing and cleaning the EGR valve with terpentine. It tends to build up some soot in there.
Good luck,

CHECK THE HIGHT OF THE HEATER MATRIX IN THE CAB , IF ITS HIGHER THAN THE FILLER/EXPANSION TANK. THEN ITS AN AIR LOCK, LOOK FOR THE HIGHEST PIPE AND SEE IF THERE IS A BLEED VALVE, IF NOT TAKE BOTH PIPES OFF THE MATRIX FEEDS AND FLUSH OUT TO SEE IF IT IS BLOCKED, AND RECONNECT LOWEST PIPE FIRST AND FILL SYSTYM TILL WATER APPEAR FROM TOP AND RECONNECT RUN MOTOR, AND KEEP TOPIN UP
