Canon MP730, "check printer press resume key"

The alarm light continues to flash and although the LCD message says to "check printer press resume key" I don't seem to be able to do anything to get it to stop. I've tried turning the printer off, unplugging it for 15+ seconds and turning it on again only to get the same message. When I open the hood in order to access the print cartridges, the printhead unit does NOT return to the center so I cannot access them or do anything to check them. I don't know what to check. All of this has come about because I've been trying to get the colors to correctly print and before running into this problem, I replaced the black ink cartridge and used 99% isopropyl alcohol to drop onto the printheads after removing the cartridges. After doing this I've tried to print nozzle check patterns and test pages with pretty much nothing coming out on the paper.

SOURCE: Canon MP730 not printing. Printhead cleaning doesn't help.

You may need new print heads. They are around $50. Or, you could do this: Take the print head out of the printer, and run warm water from the tap (not high pressure), over the ports for about 5 minutes. Ink will drop out of the jets. Dont touch the electrical contact end of this head. This may clean the head enough so it works again. If not you need a new print head.

SOURCE: the red ink is not working.I put in a new

I am not sure about "injecting" the alcohol - but I would have agreed with external cleaning with it.

If all you have done has not produced a cyan (red), the your contact for that color is dirty/oxidized/broken. That ribbon cable is pretty strong, but the contacts that make with the cartridge have been known to become dirty. If a q-tip with alcohol on it rubbed over the contacts that make with the cartridge don't correct the problem, check the ribbon cable for damage - and replace it (or the printer) - probably cost about the same.

Let us know what you find, please. -Jim

SOURCE: printer does not print magenta and cyan. Change

The print head is clogged.Try unclogging manually.Open the cover and first remove the ink cartridges. Then open the holder and remove the print head.Run hot tap water and put the print head with the nozzles up to stream water.Hold that 5 mins then turn the print head around
with the nozzles down.Hold that for every color of 5 mins. Then put the print head in hot water with the nozzles down.Left it water about 15 mins and then you must very nice to dry. When the print head dry put it in printer and start cleaning. If this not help you need to replace the print head. It's part number is QY6-0049.

SOURCE: Canon IP 90 clogged printhead nozzles. How to remove printhead?

Hi there,

To avoid drying of the Print Head and clogging of the nozzles, note the following.
*When you turn off the Machine
Follow the procedure below to turn off the machine.
1)Press the ON/OFF button to turn off the machine,
2) Confirm that the POWER lamp has gone out.
This takes a few seconds or as long as 20 seconds.
3) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
If you are using a power outlet strip, you can switch off instead.
When you press the ON/OFF button to turn off the machine, the machine automatically puts a protective cap on the Print Head to prevent the ink from drying. If you remove the power cord or switch off the power outlet strip before the POWER lamp goes out, this capping will not be done properly, causing the Print Head to dry and clog.

* When You are not Using the Machine for a Long Time.
When you are not using the machine for a long time, print or copy in both black and white and in color or pertorm Print Head Cleaning, about once a month to prevent degradation of the Print Head.
Numerous nozzles are installed in the Print Head for high -precision printing. Just as the uncapped tip of a ballpoint pen or marker becomes dry and unusable if it is not used for a long period of time, the print nozzles becomes blocked by dried ink. Periodically printing or cleaning of the Print Head can prevent this blockage.
Note :
*If the printed area is traced with a highlight pen or paint-stick or stained with water or sweat, ink may blur depending in the paper.
*If the print head nozzles get clogged , printouts will become faint or particular colors will not be printed properly.

When Printing Becomes Faint or Colors are Incorrect.
When printing becomes faint or colors are incorrect even if the ink remains in the ink tanks, the print head nozzles are probably clogged. Print the nozzle check pattern to confirm the condition of the nozzles and then perform the Print Head Cleaning.
Note : Before performing maintenace

*Open the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) and make sure that all lamps for the ink tanks are lit red.
-If any one of the lamps is flashing slowly, the associated ink tank is running low. You can continue printing for a while, but we recommend you to have replacement ink tank available.
-If any one of the lamps is flashing fast, the associated ink tank is emty. Replace the ink tank.
If an ink tank is flashing fast even though ink remains in that ink tank, it is inserted into the wrong position. Make sure that the ink tank of the correct coloris inserted in each position matching the label.
-If the ink lamp is not lit, the tank is not set properly. Press the <PUSH> mark on the ink tank until the tank clicks into place. Make sure that all the packaging material is peeled off the ink tank.

*Increase the print quality setting in the printer settings.

Step 1 : Printing the Nozzle Check Printer.
1) Make sure that the machine is turned on, open the Front Feed and extend the Output Paper support.
2)Load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder or the Front Feeder.
Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left.
3) Press the Paper Feed Switch to select the paper source where you have loaded paper.
4)Print the nozzle check pattern.
a) Press the Menu button.
b) Use the right and left arrow buttons to select the Maintenance/settings, then press the OK button.
The maintenance /setting screen is displayed.
3) Use the right and left arrow buttons to select Maintenance, then press the OK button.
The Maintenance screen is displayed.
4) Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to select the Nozzle check and then press the OK button.
The pattern confirmation screen is displayed.
5) Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to select Yes and the press the OK button.

Examine the pattern and take the appropriate action.

Step 2: Print Head Cleaning
Clean the Print Head if lines are missing or if white streaks appear in the printed nozzle check pattern. Cleaning unclogs the nozzles and restores the print head condition. Note that cleaning the Print Head causes used inl to be absorbed in the ink absorber. Cleaning the Print Head consumes ink, so perform Print Head Cleaning only when necessary.
1) Make sure that the machine is on, open the Fron Feeder, and extend the Output Paper Support.

f) Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to select Yes and the press the OK button.
The nozzle check print is printed, and the pattern confirmation screens are displayed alternately.
Examine the pattern and take the appropriate action.
Note : If the problem is not resolved after performing steps 4 and 5 twice, try Print Head Deep Cleaning.

Print Head Deep Cleaning.
If print quality does not improve by standard Print head Cleaning, try the Print Head Deep Cleaning, which is more powerful process. Note that cleaning the Print Head causes used ink to be absorbed in the ink absorber. Print Head deep Cleaning consumer more ink than the standard Print Head Cleaning, so perform this procedure only when neccessary.

d) Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to select Deep Cleaning and then press the OK button.
The confirmation screen is displayed.
e) Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to select Yes and the press the OK button.
Print Head Deep Cleaning starts.
Do not perform any other operations until Print Head Deep cleaning finishes. This takes about 100 seconds.

5) Check the condition of the Print Head.
a) Print the nozzle check pattern to check the print head condition.
If a particular color is not printed properly, replace the ink tank of that color.
b) If the print head nozzles are still not cleaned, turn off the machine and perform another Print Head Deep Cleaning after 24 hours.
c) If this does not solve the problem, the Print Head may be damaged. Contact your Canon service representative.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.
Have a good day.

Print head will not move at all but i can slide it back and forth by hand. and the alarm light flashes and the srceen reads check printer press resume key

This will either be a problem with the printhead drive motor, the ribbon cable going to the printhead, or even worse...a problem with the circuit boards inside the printer. It will need to go into the shop for repair.

Canon Multipass F80 printer. "Check printer press resume key"

On the f80 you need a shop to go to service mode and get the error code and tell you what the problem is. Could be purge assembly, waste ink full, feeder error, printhead error, any number of possible problems.

Horrible grinding noise

The problem sounds like a broken or stripped gear in the printer. If the unit is under warranty I would contact the authorized repair station for that printer in your local area.

Alarm light on. F80

This worked for me on an F60 and someone else on an F30. Re: Check Printer error message on Canon MultiPass by watsonk (6/7/05 11:16 PM) reply + / - It could be due to "waste tank full" alarm; you may need to reset the waste tank counter. I found a reset sequence for a MP730 printer in this website that works for F30 as well. Try: Resetting the Waste Ink Volume Counter 1) Enter SERVICE MODE.--- By pressing Menu-Copy-# 2) Select TEST MODE. 3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE. 4) Select 3. [EEPROM CLEAR]. 5) Select 0. [INK COUNT]. 6) Press the [OK] key. 7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key. Skip step (6) since there is no [OK] key on F30 printers.
