ATI Radeon X1650 Pro overheats and videocard shuts down
I have an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512MB that I installed on my Abit NF7 motherboard about a year ago. It had been working fine till now. I bought a game that worked just fine. Then a storm came in the night that caused the power to flicker. Now every time I load that game (or any game) after a little while, The video card freezes and the computer shuts off. It doesn't do this with normal programs. It works fine with normal programs and extended desktop.
Thanks for your help I think that after scrounging around for hours just to find the part number to get my warranty and having to take the video card out of the computer and reinstalling it somehow fixed the problem.

Check if the games take too much memory so that the card not able to work, if you used to play it before without problem, check the card fan if its working, and at the same time check your computer cooling if its cool enough.

You need to install the drivers.
Go to: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
Fill in the fields, download the full package of drivers, and install them. Now your games should work.
I hope this helps,
Yannick.
I have checked you motherboard and the graphics card you mention is supported by your board.
See the direct link to the msi website and save it to favourites.

Yes you can run the AGP version of the Radeon 1650 pro on your system. It is always best & recommended to upgrade memory in pairs. You could upgrade to `gb by purchasing a 1 gb kit which would be 512 x 2. That way you have a matching pair of RAM modules. As for a cpu upgrade you can go to the Asus website and see what cpu's are supported by your motherboard. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
For this card they recomment at leat a power supply rating of 450 watts. If you have lower than this then I would suggest upgrading the power supply. A 550 watt psu is reasonably priced and should give you plenty of power for future use. Hope this helps.
the card you have is a PCI express 16X your board is for PCI express 8X. I think some cards can run at a slower speed but I believe you have the wrong card for your board
Hi noxiney, you're MSI motherboard does have 1 opened AGP 8x4x slot. You can install & run the ATI Radeon X1650 PRO AGP. You can not run PCI-Express because there are no PCI-E slots on the board. There are PCI (White in color) on the board but the AGP slot is much faster than the PCI (White in color slots). The manual states the AGP card can only support 1.5volt video cards & not 3.3volt AGP cards. (Keep this in mind when looking for an AGP card).
Below is a link to a bunch of AGP 8x4x video cards. One or two include DDR2 memory. Carefull where you buy. Check the warranty. (Longer is better). The first one on the list would be compatible. Its not DDR2 but it does have 512MB of memory. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=AGP+ATI+Radeon+X1650+PRO&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title
Maybe this post is a bit old, but on last deceber I bought an AGP 512MB ATI Radeon X1650 PRO for my Foxconn motherboard and I must say that it's simply awesome!
I can play most games on mid-high settings on reasonable resolutions (most on 1024x768) with good FPS (except with Crysis... but let's face it, did Crytek bought a time machine to warp a 2010 game??).
So, if you already have it, then congratulations, and if you still are thinking on buying it, then what are you waiting for!?
Also, it's AGP x8, if your motherboard support x8, then it should run perfectly fine.
Also, I have a bit of problems trying to run Prey on the X1650...
It always appears an error... it's not of much importance, as I have much better games, but I haven't tried it with high fancy graphics... :P
Thanks for your help
