My Dewalt Framing Nailer 51844 extends the firing pin (the shaft that pushes the nail) as soon as the gun is attached to a pressurized air hose. I took it apart, cleaned it, oiled it and still wont work right. I have always made sure it has oil before use and I have used it lightly for a fence or two. Any ideas. Thank you in advance. Jim.

Thanks for your responses. Update... the gun has been sitting for weeks now. I connected it to the air hose today. Now it started firing nails most of the time. Every now and then the pin stays down after driving a nail. The pin (piston) goes back up after I remove the pressurized hose. Sometimes the pin goes back up after I giggle the trigger. Then it will drive a few more nails and do the same thing where the pin stays down until I disconnect the air hose.
So it's not the O rings, huh? Thanks again guys!
I am still thinking the firing valve. Remove the air hose and take the 4 cap head bolts out of the cap and just take a peak inside to see anything obvious. The valve should move freely and also should hold down when pushed in and the release hole stopped (finger) and should pop back when released.
In addition to the trigger valve I would also take a look at the firing valve in the cap, you didn't say whether the piston came back up when you removed the air line but I would guess it does and both could be a problem
I'd say the problem has to be in the trigger assembly... i.e. it is not closing off the air when in the released position as it fires as soon as air is applied. Thats the area I would be checking carefully.
