Keyless chucks normally have a knurled ring at the base of the chuck that you hold in one hand while turning the large knurled taper with the other. If the chuck has been overtightened, and you cant open like this, try using two stilson wrenches (Pipe wrenches) one on each of these parts. Use a soft cloth in the jaws to avoid damaging the knurling. You can also try some Q20 or similar into the chuck to help lubricate it.

Take a piece of 2 x 2 timber and use the flat side to give the chuck a whack on either side or three sides if you make a marks on the chuck with a felt tip

If you are frightened to damage the chuck wrap a bit of cloth around it first

The idea is to shock the retainers from the side, thereby imparting some movement back into the mechanism .

If you think about it how many times does a drill work loose when you are using a hammer action

HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE BIT ON THE BLACK AND DECKER DRILL?

if you have a keyless chuck, hold the part closest to the drill and spin it in a counter clockwise motion, this will loosen it and the bit will come out, if you have a key chuck,, you will need the key that fits the chuck,, here are pictures of each beginning with a keyless http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=keyless+chuck&hl=en&prmd=ivns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1014&bih=622&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=8334691399990082166&sa=X&ei=nuZrTteGCrTUiAKl3dyaDg&ved=0CI8BEPMCMAQ and one with a key needed http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=drill+chuck&hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=14591904385008270782&sa=X&ei=8eZrTsOGCazXiAKmk_ilDg&ved=0CIgBEPMCMAE

I have a Black & Decker 18V cordless drill with keyless chuck. The spot where the drill bit fits is in the open position stuck and won't turn in either position. What am I missing how to unlock it?

Look at the three jaws in the chuck,if on is further out than the others the you need to tap ti back into place with a small punch and a hammer. If this does not work then you need to replace the chuck, remove the screw at the bottom of the chuck[where you put the bit],then you will need to to clamp vise grip on the chuck and with it pointed away from you hit the vise grips with a hammer with a sharp blow downward and it should come off.Hope this helps.

Bit is stuck / jammed. Can't seem to loosen. Any ideas on how to fix?

If the chuck is too tight to get the bit out you can either put a glove on one hand grab the chuck and run the drill in the reverse direction or if that will not work use vise grips or a small pipe wrench on the chuck to loosen it but be sure to tape the pipe wrench or vise grips with a thin piece of duct tape so you don't gouge the drill chuck.

Can't tighten or loosen the "keyless chuck" inorder to put in a bit

What you need to do is get a piece of strong strapping, on a stick like a jar opener, or a vice, or some way of "Grabbing" the chuck, other than you hand, even using the inner edge of a door frame and "Grip" the Chuck, Now with a nice fresh battery installed, put it in "Reverse" and holding the chuck tight operate the unit and it should undo itself.

Hi, I have 14.4v B&D drill - I for the life of me cannot unscrew the front of the drill to insert my drill bit. It is is just soo tight & not sure how this has happened! Can you help in how i can...

If this model has a keyless chuck use a plumber strap wrench to crasp the chuck. this will give you suficient leverage to open the chuck. Remember to loosen turn left, turn right to tighten. " Lefty loosey, righty tighty". You can use inexpensive rubber strap wrenchs.

How do i release a drill bit

This particular drill/driver has a keyless locking chuck. Apart from suggesting you read the manual, you grip the black plastic part of the chuck and turn it anti clockwise (when it's facing you)
