Just use the others. You can get a 4/5 port extension that fits into any one USB (Working Port) for a few dollars. Each port allows additional USB devices to be added onto the original single port. Assuming you have TWO active ports, that translates to 8 USB ports min. Tiger Direct has them cheap.

In ten years of laptop repair I have seen many foreign objects stuck in USB ports preventing things from being plugged in correctly.

First of all, it is not a USB port/slot, it is a 3.5 mm slot. And it can only be used Samsung technicians for "service" and nothing else.

I have tested the LA40C530 Samsung with a 300GB external hard disk and it works well without any issue. My guess is that it should support 500GB as well. I have played video/music/pictures on my WD 300GB HDD.

You need to reinstall your usb driver from Samsungs website.

You may get the error that you're getting if there's a problem with the USB port of the computer, with the USB cable, or with the USB port of the device itself.

Try connecting the Samsung mp3 device to a different USB port of your computer. Usually, it's best to connect the device on the USB port at the back of the computer. Make sure that the USB cable is properly inserted on the USB port of the device and on the computer.

You may also try connecting the Samsung mp3 device to a different computer to isolate the problem.

Another isolation is to try connecting a different USB device on the computer, just to check if the USB ports of the computer is working properly.

Try using a different USB cable also, if you have any.

this may sound easy, but once you've installed the samsung software + drivers, plug the USB cable into one of the ports in the BACK of your PC - NOT the front ones (sometimes these are incorrectly setup, or not USB2 ports).

Yes it might be the problem..First try a different cable..Also check the data transfer port(wher you connect the cable)on your phone for bent/broken pins..If the pins aredamaged you will have to get a new data port and dont worry its very cheap..usually 5$ or less..
