On my set when looking at the screen there is a section of "black" around the picture (no, it's not letterbox type, it is only about an inch wide all around the screen). It is straight across on the top and bottom, but on the left and right sides, the black outline is about 3/4 inch wider towards the bottom of the screen than it is at the top of the screen. It's like the projection is off a little bit. Any advice on how to fix this?

Try searching for a possible "factory reset" for this brand. It will be a secret set of buttons on the remote to enter the default reset menu. I hope that gets you something to try. BTW you should have the original remote or a universal remote with all buttons communicating with the tv to do this. ie numbers, menu, up, down, left, right...
Tries tv unplung, replug it back like about an hour later. For the tv to do a resetting itself back to the factory setting.Tv now 50/50 the tv might work as normal again. If the tv dosen't.Tv have a dead 1 or 2 backlight buffers boards have to be replacing. These 2 long backlight buffers boards only job are to provided a tv plasma screen panel for a backlight to see the picture.Tv now the plasma screen panel have no backlight that why ur tv have only audio sound and no picture. No experience in tv repair and never done any electronic board parts replacement before.Best just call many tv shops and explain the tv situation it in and get the best quote prices for parts and labors.Best prices parts and labors should be around $400 is fair more than that as i said shops around for more tv repair shops.
If you are watching television and you see black lines on the left and right sides of the screen, check to see if you are watching an HD broadcast or a standard definition broadcast. You can do this by bringing up the TV guide menu on your remote. If the show is in HD, it should take up the full screen. However, if it is not HD, bars will be present on the left and right of the screen. That is because standard definition programing is in 4x3, which will not take up the entire screen.
If the picture you are watching not only has black bars on the sides, but on the tops and bottoms of the screen as well, your "Zoom" mode has somehow gotten off-kilter. Press the "Zoom" button on the remote until the image appears correct. If this does not work, power down the television, wait a few moments, and power the TV back on. The image should be correct now.
If the image on the screen looks stretched or squished, this is because your HD cable receiver is not set up properly for your widescreen television. Press the "Menu" button on the receiver
This looks as if a component has become thermally sensitive. The best way to find this is to use component cooling spray. It looks as if the problem is localized to the tuner section. Take the back off of the TV and turn the TV on, wait until the problem occurs and lightly spray the tuner section with the component cooling spray watch for any reaction, then if this does not work spray the Microprocessor and the LVDS section and watch for a reaction. The set should go back to normal when it does that section is the problem, try to localize the problem to one component. Then replace that component.
Try this.... First, go into picture menu and reset it. Next turn contrast all the way up. Turn the sharpness all the way down. Make sure the tint is in the middle. Adjust brightnesses accordingly. If that don't work, just drop me a line and i will explain more
I am currently having the same problem. It started they way you are discribing, but now the TV will do that after the TV has been on for 20min and then will shut off within 30min. Then all the lights up front flash. I have replaced the bulb and that was not the problem. I also NEED HELP! Occasionally the picture on my TV will be inverted and sort of "dance" back and forth on the screen.
