Anybody can help me with operation of Tascam 2488 neo. I find the manual trips me up and a simple manual would be great if available

Here's a 2488 DVD tutorial. You may even find it elsewhere at a better price. It is of great help.

My husband and I just purchased tascam 2488 portastudio, we are truly novice and need help with figuring out what cords are needed to connect the mics we have to the tascam. We would also like to know is...

If your mics are XLR (a hole on the bottom of the mic with three pins visible in it) you will need one of these for each mic, plugged into one of the four channels on the tascam that has an XLR connection (which will be the female version of the connection on the bottom of your mic). If your mics have a 1/4-inch connection, you can use the 1/4-inch connection on any channel on the tascam. For the stereo connection, you will need one of these of sufficient length to convert the RCA output from your stereo to the 1/4-inch input on your Tascam. Find "Tape Out" or "AUX Out" on your stereo and plug in the RCA side of the cable there (note which color you use for R and L). Use the 1/4" end of the cable to connect to two available channels on your mixer. Use the Pan knob to pan the left channel to the left and the right channel to the right, and voila! Hope this helps, and good luck!

I want to sing over disk soundtrack.I have tascam neo. Please tell me how to do that,Thank you

The best way to accomplish this would involve ripping the sountrack from disk first using your PC to create a wav file and then importing the resulting stereo wav file into a pair of tracks on the 2488 NEO.

The process for ripping would depend on whatever software you use to rip from the CD (lots of free ones available out there) and the process to import a stereo wave into the 2488 NEO would be detailed in your 2488 manual on pages 81 and 81.

Hope this helps.

I just received my Tascam 2488 Neo recorder. I did not get the mic to work. I pluged it in to the back, but I am not sure if the phantom power is on or off when the button is down??

When the button is down phantom power is on (for the first four inputs only... A to D... which are XLR or 1/4" ... the others don't have phantom power).

Make sure that the trim pot for the input is turned up. You should see the meters moving for the stereo bus in the LCD screen when using the mic even if the input isn't yet assigned to a track (and hear it assuming your monitors or stereo system is set up already and the master fader is turned up).

Connect yamaha keyboard to tascam 2488 MKII

There are 8 inputs on the back. 4 of them support XLR type microphone connections, but also double as 1/4 inch and the remaining four are just 1/4 inch. These are all line level inputs and you can use any of them for a keyboard hookup. Typically you might leave the XLR inputs (A thru D) available for mics and take the next two (E and F) to use from your keyboards L and R outputs. Then just assign those inputs to two adjacent channels (tracks) or one of the stereo pairs, turn up the input levels for those inputs and the faders for those tracks and you'll be able to hear the keyboard playing through the 2488 (or whatever monitors/or stereo you have hooked up to it for monitoring). To record the keyboard simply arm whatever tracks you have those inputs assigned to for recording and record away.

How do I connect effects rack (Lexicon) to Tascam 2488 MK 2?

I've got a Lexicon too and I love the thing.

To use the Lexicon as a 'send effect' (which is what it is) you'll need to connect the effect sends from the back of the 2488 to the inputs on your Lexicon. Then connect the outputs from the Lexicon into two inputs on the 2488. Then assign those inputs to tracks.

You've got to select the previously recorded track(s) where you want to add reverb or other effects (by pressing the select key) and then press the 'send' key to get into the 'send effect' screen. Here you can adjust the amount of signal is sent from that channel to either of the effect sends (typically you might want to send one track of a stereo set of tracks out eff 1 and send the other track out eff 2).

Pre, post or off will determine whether the fader affects the signal being sent or not and the loop setting on the top of this screen is for the internal effects.

Once you've got this set up the way you want you just arm the tracks where the Lexicon output is coming into the 2488 for recording, mute whatever you don't want to hear and you can bounce record the raw signal through the Lexicon and record (print) the effected signal on the tracks you've armed.

Hope this helps.

Tracks 13/14 etc...

As far as I'm aware there is no way to record to just one of the stereo paired tracks (channels) on the 2488. There are individual mono tracks underneath those channels, but they are controlled with one fader and can only be recorded to in stereo. They are designed to be used for recording stereo sources and stereo bounces. You can however record to any of tracks 1 to 12 and then move (assign) that track to say track (channel) 13 or you can clone any single track to any other track (channel).

The term track can be misleading on the 2488. It might be easier to refer to the 1-24 fader controlled 'tracks' on the 2488 as 'channel strips' and refer to each of the 250 virtual 'tracks' on the 2488 as 'tracks'. You can assign any of the 250 virtual tracks on the 2488 to any of the channel strips. So you have 250 tracks available, but can only work with 24 of them at a time. The stereo pairs just offer some extra convenience when working in stereo. They allow you to control the volume of two tracks with one fader making working with stereo easier.

Channels 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 4 and 6, ...11 and 12 can also be linked as stereo pairs and will be controlled with the fader of the odd numbered (first) track when linked.

Cheers,

Tascam 2488

In the monitor section on the 2488 console (upper right) make sure your monitoring source is set to 'stereo'. Then make sure your 'monitor level' control is turned up. The 'stereo' fader (sub mix fader on the MKI, stereo fader on the MKII).
