Does the 2488 neo have a battery in it?

Page 3 of the manual says it does. Batteries (battery pack or batteries installed) should not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like. https://tascam.com/downloads/tascam/4/E_2488neo_web.pdf The unit is discontinued which is never a good sign. https://tascam.com/us/product/2488neo/feature .

TASCAM DP-01 won`t startup

Press and hold down the "track edit" and the "shut down" buttons while turning the power on until it says "-init screen- please wait". It will ask you if you want to initialize hdd. If so press yes/enter. This Will wipe your hard drive clean. If no just press no/exit. This works on the dp-01fx. It should work on the dp-01 as well.

Tascam DP01 wont get past please wait screen

Usually an indication of bad sectors on the hard drive. This can be caused by bumping the unit when it is running, excessive vibration, a power failure while it is on, improper shutdown, or expoure to a strong magnetic field like having a subwoofer too close or an intermittent faulty power supply.

Your options are to return the unit (if it is still under warranty), or if not to open up the DP-01, remove the hard drive, connect it to a PC and perform a low level format (or take the drive to your nearest PC repair shop and have them reformat it).

Unfortunately you'll lose any data that wasn't backed up, but this should bring back your DP-01.

What does I/O too short

I/O is are the Set In (the start of the recording) and Set Out (the end of the recording). You must set these marks to master the recorded material. If you look you will see the "Set In" and "set out" buttons. YOU MUST DO THIS. If the I/O are not set you are basically try to master Nothing 0.0-0.0secs. So Set your In at the start, and Set your Out at the end of the recording. You must do this. Do not touch the Out until your recording is complete.

I have a Tascam DP-02(not 01) and need to seperate songs

You can use the track edit functions to mark the beginning and end of a song to cut or copy and then insert the song onto its own track(s). (If it's in stereo you'd have it recorded on two tracks).

Or you could consider just exporting the whole track(s) via USB (or using the SF card) onto a PC for editing with the program of your choice.

Timing of Mastering and burning final copy to CD

Hi,

I don't use my Tascam to create CDs for exactly the reasons you are asking about. I do a bounce mix to a couple of tracks and then export via usb to a PC for finalizing and CD creation there.

To answer your questions, you do always need to create a master first for each sermon on the DP-02 before you can burn it to a CD. You also have to finalize the CD to play it on other players.

Mastering as well occurs in real time, so it does take 60 minutes to create a master for a 60 minute recording.

As I don't burn from my Tascam, I didn't realize the burn time was so long though. I would have expected that to be faster for sure. I know my old 2488 MkI is supposed to burn at 4x and I believe the MkII burns at 8x. The DP-02 is newer than both and I would assume it would burn even faster.

Anyway, as I said you might wish to go the PC route. That way you can export the tracks without having to master them and burn them from the PC to CD at up to 40x (depending on the speed of your PC's burner).

Hope this helps.

Tascam DP02 - LOW VOLUMES!

Phantom power should only be used with a condenser/ribbon mic. If you're using a dynamic mic (like the one in the photo) you don't need phantom power. Also I run my mics and instruments through a mixer, then into the unit. Also if you're mixing your masters at a low volume, the CD will play at a lower volume. Try mastering at as high a volume as possible, avoid clipping of course. But get it as loud as possible while mastering. Then the master copy should be louder. I have a DP02 and found out it needs decent monitors to mix and master. That's all I've got.

I get a humming sound in the headphones as if an internal filter or motor has shorted out, I cannot hear anything other than the buzzing sound. Would a faulty plug in, transformer cause this?

I've done this a number of times. Stop plugging your headphones into the footswich jack and plug them into the headphone jack. That's the red one. It would help if the headphone jack was the one on the end, or the footswitch was in the back, but as it is, you just have to become aware of what this sounds like. Have a great day.

Mpc200oxl forces me to save my beats as midi

Hi,

Not sure if this basic instruction is what you are looking for or not, as I'm not sure how long you've been using the Akai Sampler. So forgive me if this is too basic and you're having a real problem other than one that assumes you are fairly new to the unit. Here goes:

To change the file format (or type of save) the MPC will perform a save in, you need to access the Save Screen:

Hold SHIFT and press LOAD (3 on the numeric keypad) to enter the Disk mode. Press SAVE [F2] to display the save screen. You then need to select the Type: - if it is only saving midi then the type will be "Save a Sequence" on this screen. You can change it to "Save All Sequences & Songs" if that is what you are referring to as 'the normal way'.

Hope this helps.
