Error 23 when I try to play music from my new flash drive

I have a Pioneer DVD AV receiver avh-p4000dvd in my vehicle. We have a plug in to play from USB memory. It works fine when I use my small, freebie flash drives. But when I put in my new cruzer 16gb drive, I get error 23. The manual says it can use memory up to 250 gb, so it's not too big. Any suggestions?

I have found that cruzer flash drives uses a special format with it's own software. I found a format utility to make it the FAT format for a friends cruzer..

  • Bob May 26, 2009

Well I've searched again for the format utility but it looks like it's been removed. If you want to give it a try the file name is. "SoftPaq SP27213.exe" without the quotes. You may also be able to reformat with the "Computer Management/Disk Managment" in the control panel if you are using windows. Be sure to backup any files on the Cruzer or you will lose everything on it. Good luck

Your drive has to be formatted to FAT32, and if you have the option, format it as a 'primary' drive (instead of logical). I am running a Seagate FreeAgent-Go (250GB) with no problems now that I got the format right. (Use the shortest USB cable you can get by with!!!)

On your 250 gb drive were you able to use more than 30 gigs in FAT32 format? It seems I can only format 30 gigs so should I make multiple partitions? if so will all the partitions be recognized by the Pioneer AVHP4000dvd?

How do i get the dvd to play while driving

The e-brake thing is lame, I tried slightly tapping the e-brake up while driving a bit and it will allow it to play but then shuts off if not kept up. Most units allow you to simply ground the wire, but not this one. you have to find a switch and know how to install it to get the dvd to play while driving.

How do i play video from usb on a Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD?

You can NOT view video using USB on this unit. Video has to come from the AV inputs (RCA connections) or from an IPOD connection. Sorry.

No pics on avh-p4000

Right after I send my problem with my p4000, I found what's where wrong... I forgot the little black wire ground. I simply put wires togheter (the big on and the small) and now, it works !!! I can see pictures and sound from DVD and listen music with USB flash drive...

Hope this will help you...

No video from ipod

Do you have the green cord that attaches to the parking break hooked up?
This stereo is designed so that you cannot watch videos while driving, therefore you need to have the parking break on in order to get video.
when you play a dvd with out the parking break on, you will only get sound.

Watch a dvd while driving pioneer AVH-P4000 DVD

ground the wire to a hot (ie power comes to the wire) switch in your dash, like a rear window defroster or seat heater. turn the switch on then off and it will trick the system into thinking you activated the parking brake.

New pioneer dvd player cant view picture when playin dvd

You probably need to get the handbrake switch wire properly attached to the handbrake switch. Some people have also used a toggle switch or something and run the handbrake switch wire to that and the wire from the handbrake switch to a ground on the vehicle, then you just have to flick the switch off and on EVERYTIME you start the car to do the bypass.

Though what I'd really suggest just getting a 4 pin relay and do a bypass. You can also use a 5 pin relay and do it, just don't use the 87a pin. Another clean way to do it would be getting a PTR 7 but this costs a bit more and needs to be programmed. This should allow you to look at DVD's with vehicle moving or not.

Pioneer AVH-P5000DVD stereo USB Error 23

I had the same problem with my Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD. Just got my 16GB sandisk micro cuzer in the mail from Radio Shack. Here is what I did to solve it:
  1. Copied all the files that came with the Sandisk device to another location (in case I need them again)
  2. Copied all the music I had put on the Sandisk since I got it to another location
  3. Using a Windows PC, I right clicked on the drive in Windows Explorer and selected "format"
  4. I re-formatted the cruzer mini to FAT 32, default size (yes, I know it was FAT 32 already)
  5. Copied the music back to the cruzer mini
  6. Plugged it into my radio and it works GREAT! instant access to any track
Before you do this: Reformatting the drive also gets rid of the software that makes the cruzer mini copy files super fast. It will take a lot longer to copy music to the drive. For me this is no big deal as the only reason I bought the drive was to put a bunch of music on it and then leave it in my truck.
