This Akai unit is a wide screen analogue CTV/DVD combo made in Turkey. Akai made a real booboo with on/off switch for the DVD player which is on an improperly supported PCB screwed into the front panel. The on-off switch is on part of the pcb which extends beyond the support screws. As a result it is only a matter of time before a user pushes the DVD open/close button just a bit too hard and either bends the PCB or breaks it completely so that it is impossible to use the DVD player!............Good one Akai!
On the unit I have been given the picture raster is about 7 cm in from each side of the screen. The vertical size is normal. My question is, do you know if on this model, the screen display size (width)is selectable usuing the remote control (which I do not have), as it is on most DVD players- but in this case in TV mode -or is this a real Horizontal width problem, perhaps the Hor O/P transistor BU2525AF or other width control component/s faulty etc.which must first be fixed?
Trying to find any info on the web about this Akai model number has proved futile and the Akai website is a joke...simply a Sales medium with no user support!
With older sets i found dust as the main culprit in simmular situations.check for any adjustment pot on the circiut controlling the screen width[normaly 3 pots close together open back of set to reveal electronic's]. be very carefull not being electrified as the set must be in operation while doing the adjustment.even turning the pot forward and back and then to the original position sometimes solve the problem.
