HOrizontal width problem

This Akai unit is a wide screen analogue CTV/DVD combo made in Turkey. Akai made a real booboo with on/off switch for the DVD player which is on an improperly supported PCB screwed into the front panel. The on-off switch is on part of the pcb which extends beyond  the support screws. As a result it is only a matter of time before a user pushes the DVD open/close button just a bit too hard and either bends the PCB or breaks it completely so that it is impossible to use the DVD player!............Good one Akai!
On the unit I have been given the picture raster is about 7 cm in from each side of the screen. The vertical size is normal. My question is, do you know if on this model, the screen display size (width)is selectable usuing  the remote control (which I do not have), as it is on most DVD players- but in this case in TV mode -or is this a real Horizontal width problem, perhaps the Hor O/P transistor BU2525AF or other width control component/s faulty etc.which must first be fixed?
Trying to find any info on the web about this Akai model number has proved futile and the Akai website is a joke...simply a Sales medium with no user support!

With older sets i found dust as the main culprit in simmular situations.check for any  adjustment pot on the circiut controlling the screen width[normaly 3 pots close together open back of set to reveal electronic's]. be very carefull not being electrified as the set must be in operation while doing the adjustment.even turning the pot forward and back and then to the original position sometimes solve the problem.

Overall size

The screen is measured diagonally from one top corner to the opposite bottom corner--hence 13 inch.

If you want the screen width measure it.

Akai 32" wide screen lcd tv/dvd combo LCT3201AD

This may be an instance were the idea was great but the execution wasn't thought out. I've heard of several related problems that may be related. Both the TV and the DVD player tend to produce heat, not in great abundance, but together a sizable amount of heat. The power supply may have been ample for the TV at first but with the addition of the DVD player was not able to handle the extra load. If still under warranty you're all set. If not you might call Akai and see what they might be able to do for you.

Tramaine, I would suggest a new PSU. I have used ShopJimmy.com in the past with great success. Here is a link to the part you need on their site. Hope that helps! TeeVeeMan2

Strictly speaking, analogue no longer exists. if you are accessing channels through an Antenna, You're going to need a digital converter box.

My AKAI tv/dvd combo - DVD quit working.

Most times it's video read issue such as a dirty lens on the laser. If you smoke in the house or use a fireplace there is a lot of airborn stuff to leave a slight haze on the lens making reading the disk impossible.Try a standard cd or dvd lens cleaner. The on that looks like a cd and uses alcohol on one of the cleaning brushes on the disk you've got a 50 50 chance.

good luck

Can not adjust width to full screen. Two choices, 4:3 and fill scree. neither fills screen horizontaly. Hight OK.

Are you receiving an HD signal?
The TV is most likely the new 16:9 size, and if you are only giving it the old 4:3 signal it will not fill up the entire horizontal size.
