How install a water filter in Kenmore refrigerator

Is it possible to add a water filter to a Kenmore 106.52212104? It does not have one and our city water is pink and moldy (makes for really gross ice). I removed the bottom grille and found the water line, but am not sure if there is a way to install a filter on that line.

Spoke with Sears help line. They said I need to replace my water line. I'm going to look into replacing it myself. I'll let you know how it goes.

SOURCE: water leaking onto floor

unplug it again , sounds like your drain line has frozen, instaead of defrost water going down the tube and under refrig in drain pan, becuse tube is frozen its draining into freezer compartment and eventually spilling out through front of unit. totally defrost unit and behind back wall of freezer youll see a metal trough designed to catch water, in the center (under the ice is gonna be the drain hole, pour boiling water down until it runs freely

SOURCE: smelly water from door dispensor

I had the same problem. Drove me crazy and cost me about 5 filters at $50 a pop until I found the solultion. Water in the Sears/LG refrigerator that I have (french door trio) goes through the filter then into a container on the left front door of the refrigerator. That container stores the water so it can get cold and it also equalizes the flows in the system so that when you put your glass under the spigot the flow is steady and the water is cold. Problem is .... this tank can build up with algae/slime/foul tasting stuff. Since it is after the filter, no matter how many times you change the filter it will have no impact on the water in this container. That is why if you use the water spigot a lot, the water seems to get a little better (as the tank water gets diluted) but as soon as you don't use it for several hours or more, back comes the smelly water again. Solution for me was to remove the plastic panel on the inside of the left front door and clean the plastic bottle. It is pretty easy to remove with 2 screws and easy to pull off the hoses. I filled is with a little clorox and water and swished it around for several minutes then drained and rinsed it. Then I filled it again with a little clorox (like an ounce or two max) and put the container back into the fridge. Once in the fridge, I ran fridge water through the front water dispenser for about a gallon or so. This flushed out the chlorine in the plastic container as well as the lines between the container and the spigot. After about a half hour of work, my great tasting water in the fridge is back again. I've checked the taste on this water for several weeks now and no plastic/odor/bad tasting water any more. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: location ofwater filter(s) whirlpool modeled22dq

Hi, The filter is located behind the kickplate. You can see the handle for the filter in the kick plate. I believe you turn the filter handle Counter clock wise to remove it. It will tke a little bit of force. Yes this filters the water in the door.
Let me know If I canassist you further. Thanks
Vic

I HAVE A 1992 KENMORE REFIGERATOR TYPE 22 SS A 92 WITH THE ICE MAKER AND WATER. DID THIS PATICULAR MODEL HAVE A WATER FILTER BUILT IN. IF SO WHERE WOULD IT BE LOCATED?

Generally a filter is a add on feature. If you do not see a filter in the water line that supplies the ice maker then there is generally not a filter. You can purchase a water filter from any local hardware store and install it yourself.

My refrigeretor kenmore elite is not making ice. What could be the problem?

Its best to install an inline water filter on an ice maker because the minerals and dirt that is in the city water supplys. Unfiltered water will clog the water turn on/off valve and it will need to be taken apart and cleaned out.

Ice Tray rust - Kenmore 363.50227000

You are very possibly getting the iron rust from the pipe that come from the city water lines or the older style galvanized water pipes in your home. It tends to settle there because it is heavier that the water. I recommend that you purchase a pre-filter for the water to your refrigerator or both one for the incoming water to the home and one for the ice and drinking water. Until I did this I just hated the taste and the stains it leaves on everything. Lowe's or Home Depot sell these products. Thanks, Please rate my solution. I know my solution cost money but it sure taste better!, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Moldy Ice from Ice Maker

Hi: Does it have a water filter? Sears parts is offline at the moment, so I can't tell. Most of the newer models do. The 596.xxx tells me that it was built in the Amana factory for Kenmore. Most likely there is a water filter in the top of the fresh food compartment. It has been growing mold in storage, and the lines too. It's on the upper right side, behind a housing with a tab to release it. Lower the housing and remove the water filter. Did you receive the bypass plug with the ref.? It looks like a large plastic wing nut with the same fitting as the water filter. If so put it in and flush the system with city water. Most city water has chlorine to clean your lines. If you install a new filter without flushing the lines it will remove the chlorine as it's supposed to do, but the lines from the filter wont get clean. If you don't have the plug, buy one. Flush the system and then install the filter. I hope this helps, Jeff
