SOURCE: I HAVE A VERMONT CASTINGS RADIANCE HEATER MY PILOT

We had this problem and struggled with it for over a year. We finally hired someone to come in and service the stove he cleaned everything and blew a piece of crud from the pilot line. NO Problem for 2 years since.
He told me the pilot light should look strong pointed like a pencil not curved up like a candle. He removed the pilot and disassembleed the line and used compressed air.

This house was built in 2003 with VERMONT casting gas fireplace #UVBR42. How do I light the pilot?

Possible instructions, but you may need to call for gas company if gas is off, or a technician to repair a 2003 fireplace.

Be patient in attempting to light it if electric, as it may take 3 or 4 tries, and you may smell gas and see a visible spark when lighting it.

Majestic Vermont casting dv36 lp

There could be several issues here. First is the pilot is weak. You may have something clogging the pilot oriface, or it could be turned down too low. Second is the thermocouple could be bad. And last, the main control valve could be bad. There are some tests that can tell you which of the last two may be your issue but they generally require a qualified tech.
