Check your fuses or breaker. An electric dryer requires 240 volts to operate. In a fuse box system, 2-30 amp fuses are required for an electric dryer to operate. If 1 fuse is blown it will not start or heat depending on which fuse is blown.
In a breaker system the breaker can trip and sometimes look ok. Find your 30 amp dryer breaker and reset it by flipping the lever to off, then back on.
If this doesn't help, you may have a faulty door switch or maybe your door has loosened from the hinges and has sagged a bit, breaking contact with the door switch plunger.
If you can locate the door switch, push on the plunger... you should hear an audible click...if you do then the door switch is normally ok, but not always, it is just a simple test to rule a bad switch which is normally silent if it is faulty.
You may want to inspect for a burned wire or wire termination.
Make sure dryer is unplugged from the power source before inspecting!!!
Other than the previous instructions, it is difficult for a novice to diagnose the problem...call a technician in to fix your dryer.
1 more thing, Just because a breaker appears to be on, and/or you flipped it off then on, doesn't mean the breaker is ok. Fuses also can look good and be bad. A small volt-ohm meter($10.00) is a good investment for testing voltage, and to save time and money.
Hope this gets you up and running.

SOURCE: i have an amana dryer that i bought used. The
try to turn the drum while you push the start button and hold the door switch in. it might start running that way.,
if it does start running, then you have a sticking motor switch and you will have to replace the entire motor.
it happens alot and try turning it first then if it happens again you might want to replace the dryer because of the cost of a new motor.

I also have this problem, but it is after the dryer has been running. When the motor is hot, it buzzes and will not run. Sometimes it will run if I turn the drum or take some clothes out. I disassembled the dryer and cleaned the motor of lint. This helped but not completely solved the issue. I have completely removed the motor and will thoroughly clean the motor (stator and brushes) and will try again.
