Lucent Digital Answering Machine Model 1715

A friend has "inherited" this answering machine without the instructions. I have looked for them online, but have been unsuccessful, using the Lucent website(www.alcatel-lucent.com). By pushing buttons, we managed to record a new answering message, but we cannot make the machine use this message to answer the telephone! We do not know anyone with a similar machine. Can you help us to find the instructions/user's manual online, or tell us what to do to make the machine answer with the recorded message? Thanks, JoFixer(Just joined today, Oct. 8)

How do I access my messages remotely? Lost directions in moving? Chuck

I'm unable to access messages from the answering machine from another telephone. You're supposed to be able to enter a remote access code, but this doesn't work.

I have an answering machine AT&T 1715, but miss the cord power, could you please tell how many amps need and voltage too

Check the bottom of your answering machine. It should have the required power adapter listed. At least my answering machine had a nice clear label.

My 1337 AT&T answering machine uses the DAS-2 power adapter. This outputs 9V 780mA. Googling the adapter number I found that the Lucent 1715 also uses the DAS-2 adapter. (The Lucent is probably identical to the AT&T but check your machine.)

I found a used one here: http://cgi.ebay.com/LUCENT-TECHNOLOGIES-DAS-2-TELEPHONE-POWER-UNIT-9-VAC-/250730379907 . There may be other e-bay sellers with the item.

I hope this helps.

I want to setup my Lucent AS40 answering machine

I had a problem recently when I looked online to find the manual for this model and a similar model, and thankfully I was able to solve the mystery and locate it. Even though the answering machine says it is a Lucent AS40, the correct user manual for it is the manual for the AT&T 1715. Once I figured this out, it was super easy to locate the manual on AT&T’s website... and sure enough, these two products are identical!!!

The user manual for the AS40 can be found at http://telephones.att.com/docMgt/public/art/161/1715_manual.pdf

I figured this out when I ran across an old article discussing a joint venture between Lucent Technologies (AT&T) and Philips Electronics. Apparently the two companies decided to merge together and combine their resources to develop technologically advanced answering machines. After the products were developed, each company marketed them under their name with a different model number, but both were selling the same thing! The reason we couldn’t find the user manual for the Philips model is because Lucent (AT&T) has the manuals!

In case this might help someone, I own two of these answering machines and can vouch that the user manual for the Lucent AS40 is the same as the AT&T 1715 and the Philips AD2735 is the same as the AT&T 1725. Here are the models that were produced during the joint venture:

AT&T/ Lucent 1715 = Lucent/ AT&T AS40
AT&T/ Lucent 1725 = Philips AD2735
AT&T/ Lucent 1717 = ?
AT&T/ Lucent 1815 = ?
AT&T/ Lucent 1825 = ?
AT&T/ Lucent 7625 = ?
AT&T/ Lucent 7630 = ?

Victim of a brown out

I know this is a very old topic....

According to the 1715's manual, the "F" means that the memory is full. Try erasing some stored messages and see if that helps.

Here is the link to the 1715's User Manual
