Camcorder has problems

I have had my camera for a couple of years, I am having trouble with it ruining tapes either during playback or recording. I wonder if it could be dirty or is there something unfixable wrong? It just don't play right, this just started happening about a week or 2 ago.

    Ive had my PV-GS250 for two years now, and now it starts giving me problems; The monitor is covered by green dots, and sometimes it turns all black or with heaps of different colored pixels. And sometimes only half the monitor is acting like that with a green line separating it from the normal screen.
    When this happens it cant record.

    I believe it is something to do with the head on the camera. Maybe it's old and needs replacement. Just thought I would warn other potential buyers that this might happen to their camera.

    when playing back the video, the images has lines running horizontally in the play back. It is not there during recording, but shows up when down loading both on screen for the camcorder and for the computer. About 7 lines total, and very in distortion.

    i had the same problem with the lines going through the film when in playback. at first i thought it might have just been the tape because my other videos' playback were fine. but now after recording a video i try going to playback and it says that there is no recording time and no video comes up.

Hi
i have the same mdel which had the tape eating problem & it reminded meof the old DAT systems which responded well to a 10 minute session with a cleaning tape, press play,FF to end & then rewind to beginning which forces the cleaning tape to clean the rollers as well. I tried it on my JVC cam & it cleared up the fast rewind eating problem/ squealing. i have heard that FF & RW sometimes has to be done several times to clean well used rollers.
hope it works

I've had mine for about 3 years and just last year it started giving me playback problems....the screen would have blue stripes across it and sound won't play. I could usually fix it by rewinding and playing again...but it's not correcting itself right now... I hope I didn't waste 60000 yen on this c_c;

Playback problem

Have the same problem.  This is what I have found in trying to solve the problem.  It appears that it is a tracking problem and it appears that either your new "used" camera has the problem or your original camera had the problem.
A simple test would be to take another camcorder and see if the tapes play. If they do, and a recently recorded tape DOES NOT, you may just need to get another camera. Or, see if the camera can be re-tracked at a repair shop. However, be sure you have copies of your most recent tapes recorded with the bad tracking

No video displayed?

Throw a new tape in, record then playback right away, then you'll know for sure if it's the camcorder or tapes for erased.

Problems with playback of HI8 tapes...

What's happening is that the tape in the cassette is being chewed on one side by the camera's tape transporting mechanism during playback, hence the distorted image and sound. The mechanism might be damaged (misalignment) or just dirty. Try not to play other tapes on this unit because they will become permanently damaged. The best way is to find another camcorder (if cleaning does not help). Note that some old cassettes of long recording time will exhibit this behavior more often because of thinner tape used.

Image and sound problems at playback

your tape guides are out of calibration on all your pre - recorded tapes , or they are out of adjustment ( maybe even loose ) now ; - - put your camcorder close , next to your ear ? and . . . listen ! to a new tape in play mode - if you hear a fluttering sound like a deck of cards being shuffled softly , the camera is damaging all your tapes and needs alignment ;

Bad playback quality

Some possible cause of lines, noise or pixelation during playback are: 1. Dirty heads on the recording machine. If the heads were dirty at the time of recording, the dirty heads didn't record a strong enough signal on the tape. The damage is done for this tape and recovery is unlikely. Best advice here is to use only premium grade new tapes and keep your camcorder clean by occasionally running a cleaning tape. 2. Physical tape damage. Any distortion of the tape will result in mistracking and subsequent loss of data. 3. Built up oxide deposits or other debris in the guidepost corners can also result in tape edge damage. Keep your machine clean! 4. Improper tape storage - Even short term exposure to high temperatures over 130 deg f. can permanently damage the tape. The black cassette housing readily absorbs the sun's infrared rays and internal cassette temperatures can soar even if left in direct sunlight on just a warm day. It doesn't take much heat to slightly distort the plastic shell or ruin the tape contained within. * Try other tapes to ensure the problem lies within the tape and not the camcorder. * If the problem becomes apparent on all tapes, try a head cleaner. After cleaning the heads, the tapes may not play cleaner if the recording was done while the heads were dirty.
