The Calculator does not have a Computer Algebra System (CAS), and cannot perform algebraic operations with variables. However if you enter some expression with variables, it can solve for one unknown after it prompts you for the values of the others

Each of the letters in fact represent a TERM.

e.g. The above Formula 1 can be stated as
(First term + Second term)2
= (First term)2 + 2(First term)(Second term) + (Second term)2

In answering your other question I did make a mistake: I looked at the wrong version of the manual. The Algebra FX 2 Plus does solve for eigenvalues. Under the CAS. Here is a screen capture to help you.

get your tv to repair shop, who will test your tube on a different tvcard.
if the tube works fine on that other tv. or not.
if this wont work ask him to check the ic for colour and the three colour transistors on the tube.
one of this will solve your problem.

I suggest you reset the calculator by removing the main batteries. This will free up space to solve the problem.

You have a few choices of so called emulators.

Emu48, an emulator for the HP48G/GX calculators is available at hpcalc.org. But if you do not know RPN Reverse Polish Notation you will suffer a bit.
Virtual TI version2.5 emulates the TI83, but you will need the ROM of a real TI83 calculator.You will find it at TICalc.org under emulators. There are ROMs available on the Internet but you will have to look for them.You can also find someone who owns a TI83Plus and ask to download the rom from thr calculator. Procedure is described on Ticalc.org
TIEmu emulates the TI89, TI92/92PLUS, and the TI Voyahe 200 PLT. It is available for Windows and Linux. For those calculators you can go to education.ti.com and download the OS and drag and drop them on the TI Emu main window.

If you want to do symbolic algebra use the TiEmu.
