Amana Regrigerator Stopped Working After Power Supply Loss

My kitchen breaker blew. We reset the breaker but fridge is not working. The front digital display box on the fridge door seems like its locked up or something. All the dashes are lighted up but it won't let me change anything & I don't hear a fan or compressor running. Is it fried???

  • Jeanne Bruderman Nov 12, 2013

Update: My fan & compressor are working as everything is still cold in fridge and frozen in freezer today. But the digital box on the front outside door on my fridge is still not working. All the dashes are lit up but I still cannot make any adjustments as it seems to be locked. Can anyone please help me to fix this problem?

Unplug it and leave it off for an hour. then plug back in this may reset it. power coming back on can be higher than normal its always best to turn things off so when the power comes back on and you switch it back on its at the correct voltage.

SOURCE: Amana French Door Refrigerator "on" but no cooling; freezer still works

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

SOURCE: Kenmore fridge compressor not going on - reset circuit breaker?

Look at item 4 on this picture for location of the defrost timer. You will need to rotate it with a flat head screwdriver and you should hear a click to see if your compressor starts. On the first picture above about 0.5 inch from the top from the 12 o'clock position is the dial that you will need to rotate It should be mounted horzintally in the top of your food section. The dial could be white or black. It has 2 tabs on it and can only be rotated in the direction that the tabs would be engaged by a flat head screwdriver. Turning it backwards will result in having to replace the defrost timer straight away. So again rotate this dial and see if your compressor starts.

If it starts then you have either a bad defrost timer or 60 deg F thermostat in the freezer section coils.

If it does not start then you can have a bad compressor relay, run capacitor or the compressor itself has failed. If the compressor is hot and you hear a hum from the compressor for about 30- 45 seconds it could be any one of the 3 above.

I would be willing to go out on a limb here and say you most likely have a defrost circuit problem.
There is a remote possibility that you had a one time instance of the defrost timer sticking but on an older unit If it stuck once it will most likely stick again in the future.

My Whirlpool refrigerator stopped working two days ago. Fuse box says half the kitchen outlets share that breaker. They don't work either. Fuse? Help????

Yes, Unplug everything, reset the breaker or replace the fuse. Turn items on one at a time, starting with the fridge. Whichever one trips the breaker has a ground fault and needs investigation and repair.

Powerwent off while furnace was heating, when power came back on, furnace would not start

The unit probably locked its self out, meaning a safety sensed the power loss & will not let it restart until it is reset. If you can unplug, this will reset the system. Or make sure the breakers are not tripped. A power loss also creates a power surge due to the fluctuations in power supply. This fluctuation has the potential to damage circuitry at the control board in the unit.

While baking there was a spark and smoke that blew out the breaker

Sometimes there are two breakers, one for the 110v and one for the 230v. The 110v works the light and the clock and such, and the 230v handles the heater elements. If the breaker blew, you might need a repair though. Also always be careful when working with electricity please.

Oven elements arced while replacing is there a reset button for the oven

No reset button. What happened is either circuit breaker(mains) tripped or the non resettable high limit thermostat blew or the control board was fried by trying to repair oven while still connected to LIVE POWER

Does yours have the (small large burner switch)? If so, try switching it back and forth. It could be defective or your small burner element is bad.

Amana oven and broiler won't fire

Check your stove breakers first. Click them off, leave them off for a minute and put the breaker back on. It sounds like you are having a power supply problem. Make sure to check your potlet and power chord as well.

Fridge stopped working, freezer still works

Light going out is a separate problem. If the freezer is still working and the fan in the freezer operating check for frost on the back wall. If there is frost on the back wall you have a defrost system problem.
Possible open heater, bad timer, or defrost thermostat. If the freezer is not working check for power to it. Reset the breaker if necessary.
If the light went out because of some power loss the freezer would not be working.
