asus laptop>? what model> how old is it, if bought new. ?10 years , 20? I ask that for 2 reasons, but one is parts can be sourced to fix it. if not too old and tell me how good the USB really are. and yes I have seen and fixed all kinds of bad USB ports even broken.
Have you tried changing the usb cable? I know you said you have checked that it isn't broken but sometimes the cables go wrong without obvious signs. I'm always working with printers and I have had similar problems with a lexmark printers, normally the first thing I try is a new cable, that usually works a treat. I would try a new usb cable. Good luck
lose connection or cable broken. if lose then slightly press usb cable at flat side and try again. if broken it is better to replace.
in some cases you have to use original usb cable. other wise there is no connectivity.
connect the printer to power, put the usb cable in back of it, but Don't put the other end of usb cable to laptop now. put the printer On
Now put the Printer Installation CD (which came with the printer) in the computer and install the software & driver. At the point when it says connect the usb cable to computer, then insert the cable to your laptop's usb slot.
After a while software installation will complete and you can use your Printer.
Let me know if any further clarifications(in that case also let me know the Model of printer)
