Your problem is most likely due to the magnetic sensor on the right side of the unit under the plastic housing.
The right pedal arm, has a magnet emeded in the on the inboard side of the arm. When the arm comes around and passes this sensor at the bottom of the unit, a pulse is generated and sent to the computer.
The mangetic sensor on the frame of the unit, may need to be adjusted to a closer proximity with the pedal arm magnet. Assure the arm does not strike the magnetic sensor however.
It's also possible the sensor has come loose and fallen into the base of the unit.

You may have to purchase the belt from a Precor dealer in you area, if you don't have one then call Precor directly @ 1-800-347-4404 and they will help you. Most of these part have not hit the secondary market yet and Precor pretty much call the shots.

This place has manuals and user manulas along with support and some partswww.shopwiki.com/Precor+EFX+5.171 I believe this unit has a 10 yr warranty with it and the part in question may be covered by them. There is also a 1 year part warrant for other parts, I just don't know what parts they are covering for the 10 yr.
Remove
the bolts or screws securing the console to the upright assembly.
Lift the console and confirm that the cable connections are secure.
Remove the cover from the console's battery bay and install a fresh
set of batteries. Replace the battery cover.
Detach
the ends of the pedals from the crank axles. Remove the left and
right disc shields and side shields. Inspect the interior of the base
unit and locate the flywheel.
Inspect
the flywheel as it turns. Locate the magnet installed on the
flywheel. Turn the flywheel until the magnet passes in front of the
nearby reed switch. Loosen the screw securing the switch in place.
Rotate the switch to reduce the gap between it and the magnet.
Tighten the screw.
Replace the left and right disc shields and side shields. Reattach the ends of the pedals to the crank axles.

console's battery bay and install a fresh set of batteries. Replace the
battery cover.
