It would mean that there are NO DRIVERS installed for that device. what you need to do is go to the toshiba web site and download the CORRECT drivers for your sound card.

Its not a big problem you just need to ensure you use the correct model when you search Toshiba for drivers in the support area

installing vinyl AC97 usually works fine for me
can be downloaded from HP Compaq support site

Try downloading the AC97 HD Audio Codecs and reinstalling over what you have.

You are NOT alone! There are a lot of folks trying to correct this issue. I have been somewhat successful, but not always. The last 'fix' is a VIA download that is supposed to work with all AC97 cards. I had the same issue with the computer I am writting this from, and the sound is working once again. So try the download at:
