Dishwasher works but doesn't clean sometimes - Dishwashers

  • Robert Massey Oct 01, 2013

It's a low end Frigidaire and has been checked by service people twice just to find it runs fine. I turned water heater up and tried other soap but still come out like they have only been rinsed. Things like spaghetti sauce doesn't' come off unless I scrub it first.

Whirlpool dishwasher model series 980 doesn't clean dishes as good as it used to

Phosphate was outlawed as an ingredient in dishwasher detergent. If you live in a region with hard water, detergents don't work very well anymore. See the US map of water hardness.

I have a model #DU1055XTSQ2 It has no lights on, it will come on for about 30 seconds to go off and will come on again for several mintues. Do you think it could also be the thermal fuse?

Hello.

Everyone expects their dishwasher will work correctly. They can become nonchalant about it until one day it does not function. Sometimes the dishwasher doesn't drain as expected. Most people immediately call the plumber when their dishwasher doesn't work. There are several things you can try at home before having to pay an expensive service fee.

1 Check the basics. Make sure that the dishwasher has actually finish the cycle. Your dishwasher will not drain until the end of the cycle. Many things may have interrupted the cycle. Check circuit breaker and reset it if appropriate. Also check the fuse. It is possible that you could have tripped a circuit have way through the cycle. Make sure the door is properly closed. Ensure you have chosen a cycle on the dishwasher. It is amazing the problems children could accidentally cause, that are easy fixes.
2 Remove any excess food at the bottom of the dishwasher. The best way to do this is with your hands. Large food particles can block from going into the drain. This is also another extremely easy fix to make your dishwasher to drain.
3 Check to ensure that the hoses are still attached. Use your manual to find where the hoses are. If they are not attached the owner's manual will give you instructions on how the attach the hoses to your specific dishwasher.
4 Attempt to declog the line. Disconnect the hose from under your sink and check to see if there are any clogs. Use a hanger or towels, remove the clog from the hose.
5 Remove the dishwasher basket. Again refer to your owner's manual for specific instructions.Normally you will remove it with a screwdriver. Make sure to work slowly. As you take the basket apart, you will be able to see if it needs to be cleaned. If there is dirt or debris, you can clean the parts with a rag or paper towel. After cleaning these parts, you can replace the basket.

Thanks.

Hotpoint LFT 228 A dishwasher intermittent draining problems. Sometimes so much water that it leaks, will drain sometimes but then water appears in the filter again, items in dishwasher sometimes come out...

First perform a vinegar cycle wash in the dishwasher. Pour a cup of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher. Keep the temperature at the highest setting possible and perform a wash cycle. Then start using a dishwasher most probably that would solve the problem. If this does not solve the problem then there must be some parts worn out or faulty creating the problem.

There are many probable causes of failure .

To clean the dishes the water temperature is essential. It the water is not hot then the dishes will not be cleaned properly. So check the water temperature.

Also check the filter in your dishwasher.Clean the filter if there is accumulation of debris in the filter

I have a ge quietpower 3 dishwasher. Lately it has stopped cleaning the dishes. Sometimes the dispenser tray doesn't open. Sometimes it does open and the soap pac hasn't disolved.

Make sure your water temperature is hot enough to dissolve the soap. Generally, the water temp. should be 140 degrees. Run some hot water at the tap before you turn on the dishwasher. This will assure that hot water is in the dishwasher as soon as you start it. Be certain that there aren't any large pieces in front of the dispenser tray. Sometimes casserole dishes, frying pans or baking pans can block the door and prevent it from opening.
Also, the sprayer arms might be clogged with bone fragments, peelings, bits of paper, etc. If this is the case, you'll need to remove the sprayer arm, flush and then check the jets. If you see "stuff" in the jets, they can be remove with tweezers.
Finally, make sure the upper sprayer arm hose is securely seated with the tube in the back of the dishwasher that carries the water up to the sprayer arm hose. If these two are not seated correctly, the water will not travel into the sprayer arm hose, the sprayer arm will not turn and your dishes will not get clean! I hope this helps. If it does, please come back to Fixya and rate my advice.

Sounds as though the drain is blocked partially. E4 is the overfill code. Try cleaning out the drain.
