    Use epson Ink Pad Reset Utility to reset the Ink Pad Counter. You can download from internet.

You need to reset the waste ink counter. Find SSC service Utility/R220/r230 adjusment program. It is easy to find ssc service Utility in web, search and install it.

I've written a guide on the whole problem which details what causes the problem as well as the possible options available to you here:

...but in a nutshell your printer needs to have the waste ink counter reset using a reset utility (I believe the SSC utility is compatible with this model) and redirect the waste ink into an external waste ink tank...

It's not a complete nightmare and well worth doing but if you decide to get rid of it for a new model, I'd definitely recommend listing it on eBay as you'll sell it no problems at all...

Epson R230 with green led and red led blinking
This is general error of the printer. When you have to change the new mother board you should be initialized it then it can be ready mode. When you try to initialization you need printer printer adjustment program. You can batter find out from google & write down EPSON Stylus R230 Printer Adjustment program or ink reseat program.

My Epson Stylus R230 has both red lights blinking alternately
Your printer has reach its maximum count of cleaning and printing. This need to be reset using epson adjustment program. But before resetting make sure that you have replace the waste pad inside your printer or it is much better to point outside the hose where the waste ink goes out.

Epson r230 general error
Blink alternately or not? If alternately, the message is not "general error". but "service required" It's true to reset waste ink counter. But, i think it's not service required. when trun on printer ready? But when start to print red lights blink at same time? Problem with chip at ink tank. Check connector at chip and at head carriage. It's may be dirty, and not good connection. try to use another chip.
