Can recieve but not transmit

I have a cobra 29wxst it recieves but does not transmit. It is connected to a 5' wilson fg antenna. I have recently replaced the stock mic, everything was working until the last time I went Wheeling, and boy did I get picked on that day (all in fun of course) Not to mention my surprise when I could hear everyone else but they could not hear me! I eliminated the antenna as a problem by hooking up a standby radio i had at home, and it worked fine. Any Ideas? Thanks Jim

The mic wires are soldered incorrectly. Get another cobra mic for that radio or have a qualified radio tech correct the wiring.

actually since it was working at first, I would say that a wire has disconnected from the mic. A result of poor soldering.

Have a new cobra 18wxst with cobra hga 1000 atenna and cant recieve or transmet I haven't set up with swr meter yet is this the problem

Not setting your SWR meter up isn't the problem, but it could indicate that you have a problem with your antenna or feedline or connectors from the radio to the antenna. If your feedline is shorted, then you will not hear anything or be able to transmit.

My cobra 25 transmits but doesnt recieve. I changed all finals but it still will not recieve. Any ideas on what i need to do

finals have nothing to do with rcv.
u need to trouble shoot the receiver.
start at the t/r switch and make sure the antenna is connected to the front end of the rcvr when xmit is not active.
if u hear absolutely nothing u may have an audio issue. try a headset and work backwards.

Radio transmits and recieves but is like squelch is turned way up and needle doesnt move at all

Check your antenna. Make sure it is getting a proper ground. If mag mount; make sure base of antenna and where you put it are both super clean. Check where whip goes into coil or base. Make sure all allen screws are tight and whip is not either all the way down to the base or up to the top. If antenna is mounted; make sure that it has a good ground. You might have to remove some paint around the base to get a good connection. DO NOT TRANSMIT WITH A HIGH SWR. YOU CAN BURN OUT THE EXPENSIVE POWER OUTPUT TRANSISTOR. Hope it helps.

Cb has power but no squelch, can't recieve or transmit

Begin with
  • Volume knob 12 o'clock position
  • Squelch knob full counter clockwise
  • RF gain knob full clockwise
  • Pa/CB switch to CB
  • Mic plugged in
  • Check coax and antenna connections.
  • Make sure your antenna gommet/insulator is installed correctly or it will directed gound. Treat antenna shaft as it is the positive portion of circuit.
If you have another CB check the antenna system with that rig. To verify it is a radio issue. Then dig deeper Microphone, PLL chip, Audio chip etc.

I want to know how to tune my cobra 19 3 ultra cb so that i can recieve and transmit

you can't tune the radio. You must tune the antenna. I have a generic thread which explains everything you need to know about tuning your antenna.
See here. Hope this helps you.

I have a new cobra 148 with ssb, about 6 months old, while i was away there was a storm, now the radio doesnt work , recieve or transmit, i also have a cobra 29 ltd that wont transmit but it will recieve....

make sure the mic is good. If for some reason the mic went bad, it will not receive or transmit.

As for the one with no receive, it most likely needs a new final.

If lightning hit your antron, it would be in pieces.

Maximize my cobra18 WT ST

A good antenna goes along way for your transmit distants. It does close to 90% of the work on that side of things, but also remember that the radio itself does most of the recieveing. I good antenna brand to stick with is Wilson they make several units but for you a Wilson Little Wil would do the trick. There not real tall about 3' and cost around $40.00. If you want more performance a Wilson 1000 Mag mount is one of the highest performance antenna's on the market but its tall around 5' and cost somewhere around 80.00-90.00 . You can tune the radio and get alittle more out of it but not much, get a good antenna and go from there you will like it. Dont forget that any antenna has to be tuned (swr set) to the vehicle this will insure max performance.

Cobra 29 ltd classic cb not transmitting

Check the ground. Make sure its grounded well on bare metal. To see if the ground is bad, or not making good connection, disconnect the antenna and turn it on. if it does not power up, that means your ground is bad, and it was grounding only through the antenna.

Make sure not to key up with out the antenna connected.

Cant transmit out

Not really enough info to help you, but you MUST check the SWR of your antenna system. I've seen many cases where the antenna studs were incorrectly installed, shorting the antennas to ground. Also, make sure the Dynamike control on the CB radio is turned fully clockwise.
