Frigidaire FMV155DC - defective door interlock switch

I have a 2-yr old Frigidaire microwave (Model # FMV156DC). I see from the troubleshooting Q&A that a defective door interlock switch seems to be a fairly common problem but I don't see too many actual solutions listed. Is there a way to permanently fix this problem that doesn't end up costing almost as much as buying a new microwave?

My Frigidaire156DB, et al door hooks won't catch in order for the door to stay closed and the microwave to work. Consequently, the light won't go out now either.

I had the problem where the timer continues to count down but turntable doesn't turn, fan doesn't come on and food doesn't heat. Holding the door up worked for awhile but even that temporary method stopped working.

I bought a door interlock switch the cost $23 from an appliance repair place and replaced it myself. It worked like a charm. To replace the switch, you need to remove 3 screws that hold the plastic grille above the door, which exposes the 1 screw that is holding the control panel. Remove that screw and slide the control panel up to remove it. There are three switches left of the panel. Note the middle swich has a different part number so I'm not sure what that one is called. The bad one on mine happen to be the bottom one. The switch is held on by a "pin" and tab that holds it in place. Push the tab and spin the switch on its "pin" past the tab to remove. Reverse your step to put the new one on. I hope this helps.

You can replace the latch assembly and buy it on-line. TIP: Go to the web and type partselect.com enter your model number then scroll down to your part. Click to enlarge exploded diagram on left and you will be able to view at top of page. You can print the entire diagram for exact assembly by holding your pointer in the upper left hand corner of diagram. Select the print icon. Now you have what you need. If you found any of these suggestions helpful, please rate my solution. D. Lange

Frigidaire FMV156DC 950 Microwave sometimes stops heating

This sounds like a common primary interlock switch. Need to check and or replace both door switches. DISCHARGE high voltage components first with no power applied prior to touching anything in the unit. Failure to discharge High Voltage Components can result in death

That would be a problem with the secondary interlock (bottom door switch) or its mount.

I have a Frgidaire microwave model FMV156DCG just 3 years old. The very lowest door interlock switch (normally open & when door closed it closes the switch)) looks like it got hot and now won't work. I...

The unit normally draws about 13 amps of current when it's running, so it's not unusual for the wires to get warm.

A bad bottom door switch is very common in these units.

Once it's fixed, make sure no one opens the door while it's cooking. That causes premature switch failure.

Tell them to hit the "stop" pad first.

We have a Frigidaire FMV156DCC that is about 3+ years old. as of last night when the door is closed and the time is selected one of 3 things happen (or doesnt happen) 1. is nothing, just a dark...

I would replace the door switches and set up the door gap to 1/8" just enough to alow for a little play.
Setting the door square is acheived by slackening the lower door hinge and re tightening it when the door is square.
Hope that helps.

Where is the monitor switch?

The job of the monitor switch is to prevent the oven from cooking while the door is open.

If there is a problem with the door switches or door switch alignment that could allow that to happen, the monitor switch stands ready like a crowbar to ensure that the fuse and/or house circuit breaker will blow to interrupt power to the oven.

The service manual for this oven is here.

Since you're asking, I would bet you have an issue with your door switch or door switch mount, such as:

- the oven will count down but not actually start cooking when you press "Start". This is almost always a bad primary interlock (bottom door switch in this model).

- the fuse or breaker blows when you open or close the door. This is probably a sticky door switch or loose or broken door switch mount.

Cooking doesnt start

Microwave?

Generic advice follows.

Do you open the door while the machine is cooking? Do it a lot? For a long time (months)? Check your door safety interlock switches. The microswitches can not stand that type of abuse. I have personal knowledge on this. I try not to open the door until it stops, but it is hard usually to do that!!!

If you need more help, let me know.

I have a FMV145BC1 microwave oven, 5 yr old, everything works but food does not get hot!

Does the food get warm at all? My suspicion is you have a bad door switch. Do you open the door while the machine is running, ever? If yes, that is not good for the little contacts on the door safety interlock micro switches. I learned this by burning mine up. The switches are less than $ at a radio supply place and typically, you can change them yourself.

Unplug the machine. Remove the cover and you will find the interlock switches on the handle side of the door, probably on the right hand side. DO NOT TOUCH THE SILVER THING AT THE BACK SIDE OF THE MACHINE - IT IS POTENTIALLY LETHAL EVEN WHEN UNPLUGGED. If you have a volt ohm meter, you can test these switches for open and closed. If they read open when the door is closed, they (or it) is probably bad.
