Spacesaver powers off 2 seconds after resetting clock and time...

Hi--I have a GE Spacesaver microwave model JVM1653SH01 manufactured January 2005. It keeps asking me to set the clock and date, then once i do and try to microwave something, it works for about 2 seconds then powers off and the clock display has a bunch of zero-japanese looking characters--then I press clock and reset the time and date and the same thing happens over and over again......

My GE spacesaver jvm1650 also powers off a couple seconds after being turned on. I then have to reset the clock and try again. Sometimes, if I am really persistent, after resetting it 6-8 times, it will then run OK. Go figure. Any help out there? Thanks!

The clue is that you have to reset the clock. You are losing power somehow. the Main Board thinks it is being unplugged and it resets the clock and you have to start all over. The fact that after so many times it will finally work tells me that whatever bad connection you have is finally getting hot enough to expand and make a good enough connection to keep working. Intermittant connections are the worse to find. A lot of trial and error to find the problem. can be bad fuse and fuse holder ( in the unit), bad outlet, loose wire at circuit breaker, loose wire at outlet. Even a loose breaker where it snaps onto the buss bar in the Breaker Box. Etc, it an really drive you nuts trying to find it. Try the unit in a totally different area making sure it is on a compleately different circuit breaker and see what it does, if the problem follows the unit, the problems is in the unit. If not, electrical problems, outlet, breaker, panel,

SOURCE: We own a GE Microwave jvm1653sh01

The first thing I would check would be the magnetron TCO (thermal cut-out). This is a little safety devise that protects the magnetron in the event of overheating. These can act up even without overheating. I believe the nuetral side of this TCO runs through the board, and therefore the flickering and shutdown. When the TCO cools, it resets. If it were the door switch, you would blow the fuse and wouldn't be able to set the time without changing the fuse. There are other cavity thermostats that could be the culprit but my quess is on the magnetron TCO. When working with microwaves always unplug the unit and discharge the capacitor. This is high voltage..Good Luck

SOURCE: My GE spacesaver JVM1650SH01 shuts off after

I have the same problem. The microwave will turn on for approx. 2-3 seconds and then automatically shuts off. The clock/time/date prompts you to re-set. I called the number that you referred me (888-239-6832) and they are Fed-Exing me the Magnetron for free. I asked them if it was a recall and she said no but it is still under warranty (01/05). Three-five days delivery time.
I'll let you know how it works when I replace it.

Thank you for your advice

I cannot get the GE microwave clock to set! Help?

To set the clock on most GE microwaves:
1 With the microwave door closed, press CLOCK.
2 Touch number pads that reflect the time of day (1:45 would be 1, 4, 5).
3 On some newer models, indicate AM or PM for morning or evening.
4 Press CLOCK or START to lock in the time.
If you prefer not to display the time:
Disconnect the power for 30 seconds. After restoring power, do not set the clock. If your model has an ON/OFF clock display, you can choose not to have the time displayed. To choose this option, press the 0 pad for about three seconds. To Turn the display back on, press the 0 again.

-thermal cutout
-fan/fan motor
-transformer
-capacitor/diode
-circuit board, triac or magnetron

any of these could be the culprit
any of these can be tested

The microwave oven does not have power to the panel.

HI, this will require the skilled hands of a qualified GE tech. the damaged part here is the Magnetron assembly. this is a very sensitive part that creates radiation and the heating process as well. you will need to replace this device asap if possible.

GE Spacesaver doesn't heat

if you are as lucky as i was...i have a ge spacesaver model jvm130...same problem. first unplug unit and check fuse on the "power control module". if fuse is ok...unscrew the screws holding the "power control module" in place...carefully tilt module and see if a solder joint needs to be re-soldered. my problem was the solder joint under the front plug (5 large wire plug). you may have to unplug the three connectors to the board to get access to bottom. this is the second time i had to re-solder...last one was several years ago though. best of luck tennisrme

WHEN PRESSING COOK TIME OVEN CLICKS ON FOR ONE SECOND AND RESETS CLOCK

Please try on some other power point as if there is loose contact or sparking in point which cause to switch off as soon as you start because of heavy current drawn by oven and clock also resets. If not solved even then must have some short circuit or over loading in timer circuit or magnetron. in this case you have to call for a service engineer.

Shuts off, must reset clock

Sounds like you could have a fauly control circuit. Something like when you press the pad the processor does not interpret the information correctly and resets itself. Or the power going to this circuit is being interupted. It is VERY dangerous to work inside of a microwave. So you could get an estimate from a repair shop. But those control boards are expensive. Do not attempt to repair this yourself. For your own safety.
