The reason behind that is your battery has gone bad. that is how us techs actually test for a bad battery if the computer powers on without the battery but not when the battery is installed the battery is bad.

hope this helps
please rate well.

I disconnected my battery in 08 tundra and now it wont idle

disconecting batt resets the computer. now it needs to learn how to set everything to run again. disconnect batt for atleast 60 seconds, re atach, start car it will start and die(dont press gas) do this over and over until it idles (could take up to 10 times). by pressing the gas you make the computer think it is idling to high so it keeps turning down the idle. it will idle fine after reseting computer and starting several times without hitting gas peddle.

2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE WILLNOT START CKED BATT AND CONNECTIONS NO LUCK SUSPECT STARTER NEEDHELP ON REMOVAL TO GET TESTED UNLESS U HAVE A BETTER IDEAR

If when you turn the key you get a click click sound, your battery could need replacing. Mine was doing this occasionally & a mechanic told me to change the battery. I had my doubts since a battery tester showed that the battery was fine. A second mechanic told me the same thing. I changed the battery & now the car starts without any problem.

97 checvy astro 4.3 6cyl. I replaced battery, Starter and the batt wont hold a charge. Is it possible to check the wiring from the alt to the starter without having to remove the alternator?

Yes, If you have a volt meter, jump and start engine, with engine running you should have approx 13.5 to 14.2volts that would tell me that batt is getting charged when engine is running. you said new batt would not hold a charge, I would be thinking about a parasitic draw(small amount of power) that in time will drain batt. things to look for are glove box lights, under hood lights that dont turn off. one easy way too see if you have a draw is to disconnect one batt cable, now use a regular (12volt non-self powered) test light and touch one end to batt cable and the other to empty batt terminal, with no light switches on and doors closed, this test light should not light and if it does then you have a drain on batt that will kill it say overnight.

1995 toyota corolla new battery wont stay charged. i can jump the car run it shut it off and restart it but not the next day.

First, have the new battery tested & fully recharged.

You may find you problem at any point along the way but here is the proper procedure.

Now, you will need a digital voltmeter to really perform this test properly and be prepared to have a blown fuse or two, as you will be testing the system by removing and replacing them.

Install the freshly charged battery, making sure the terminals are clean and well protected with vaseline or grease. Install the Neg (-) connection last when installing the battery, remove it first when taking the batt. out. Check your negative connections.

Before connecting the Neg. cable, take a reading with the voltmeter to see what the current voltage is, it should remain fairly constant with a good strong battery when disconnected well over 12.6 volts.

Connect the Neg cable and connect the multimeter again, you should now see it start to drop, depending on what is draining the battery, fast or slow. If you note this drain is heavy, remove the neg cable again.

Make sure all things are turned off, brake lights are off when pedal isn't being pushed, no interior or trunk lights left on.

Next, start the car, the multimeter voltage reading should increase or hold steady, no drain or the alternator is not charging and could actually be draining the battery. Check belts and wiring harness plug-in.

If you haven't found your problem, make note of the fuse positions and remove them all. Connect the battery Neg cable and test for drain again. If the car isn't draining anymore, install a fuse at a time until you find the one causing the drain of voltage & then you'll have to trouble shoot that system.

There is a tool that fits over the wiring that will indicate current usage without removing the fuses and such, it's available at most parts stores but until you have one this is the way to find the problem. Isolate it.

good luck
