If you radio has an Aux input then you can connect a audio cable from your MP3 player to the Aux input on your radio.
If your radio does not have an Aux input the you can use a FM transmitter device. Connect the MP3 player to the FM transmitter and tune your FM radio to the radio frequency on this FM adapter to listen to your audio book on your MP3 player.

Turn your radio off and then on again. Then press the weather/snooze button. Do you hear the broadcast from your local transmitter? Check NOAA to make sure the station is broadcasting (not down for repairs). Try setting the radio to a different transmitter that covers your area.

You may need an external antenna for the radio (http://www.midlandradio.com/Weather-Radio-Accessories.BPE/18-259W ). Beware: when you use an external antenna, you may receive a broadcast from a different transmitter (farther away). In that case, the weather alerts for your county will likely not come in.

(we have two weather radios that are on full-time. The one set to a secondary transmitter does not receive the S.A.M.E. test signals or watches. (It can't be positioned to receive from the primary transmitter clearly.) It does receive warnings for the county correctly. The on/off routine has to be done every few weeks since it doesn't get the test signals. We tried an external antenna and kept getting transmitters from other states and missed tests, watches and warnings. Fortunately our main weather radio does get the primary transmitter and gets the tests, watches and warnings.)

You need to have it in the AUTO base/cradle - AND - you cannot have anything plugged into the LINE OUT or AUX OUT jack, as it will disable the FM transmitter. Try unplugging the audio output, then you'll be able to select the FM transmitter again. I believe that they removed the option from the HOME cradle/dock all together because of regular AM/FM radio stations complaining to the FCC that the transmitters were too strong (in other words, they wanted to hurt satellite radio competition or slow it down as much as possible by forcing Sirius and XM go back and redesign their radios for a much weaker or NO FM transmitter).

Yes, You will need to purchase a device called an FM transmitter, it plugs into the headphone jack and transmits the sound to your FM radio. The transmitter will have station settings, you just find a radio frequency that does not have a station in your area, set the transmitter to that and tune your radio to the same frequency. You can get the transmitters from Walmart electronics dept, Target, Sears, Amazon.com, Radio Shack and most other electronics retailers. The transmitters run about $12-20 and can be battery powered or plug into your car power outlet. Go to google.com and do a search for "MP3 FM transmitter" and you will see what they look like.

FM Transmitter Set-Up Tips
To tune your FM transmitter turn off your SIRIUS radio and tune through the FM channels on your vehicle’s radio to locate an FM channel (except 87.7/87.9) that is not broadcasting in your area. If you use an FM channel that is being used by a local broadcaster, it will interfere with the performance of your SIRIUS radio. Once you have located an FM channel that is not being used for broadcasting in your area, save it as a preset on your vehicle radio. This will become your SIRIUS preset. If you’re not sure which FM channels are not being used in your home or travel cities, you can go to www.sirius.com/fmchannel and search for an FM channel based on zip code.
Turn on your SIRIUS radio. In the SETTINGS or MENU on your SIRIUS radio, locate the “FM Frequency” adjustments. Set the channel number on your SIRIUS radio to match the SIRIUS preset on your vehicle radio. Refer to your user guide for detailed instructions on how to do this. The FM transmitter in your SIRIUS radio is automatically set to FM channel 88.1. This may not be the best channel in your area.
