I have used and abused several Baofeng UV-5R radios over the past two years. They are a good radio. They do miss some calls that the Motorola does not miss. I have destroyed one Baofeng because of stress to the antenna. This was a result of rough handling. In your case, if you have a new Baofeng and you have determined that the "3" button is not working, you probably have a defective radio. Don't know what software you used but try looking up a program called Chirp on the internet and use it to progran the radio. The program gets updated a lot. It has worked well for a large group of us. Is the battery fully charged?

CHIRP (Chinese Radio Programming) software is available free online. Also, search for "MIKLOR". They have great manuals for Baofeng UV5R manual online.

Obviously, I can't do it for you from here. What have you tried, and what isn't working?

The problem I found with the programming software was with the driver that is included with the software. Google Baofeng software driver and follow the instructions on how to load as well as how to remove the non-working driver. If you don't remove the original driver, windows will revert back to the original instead of using the new driver. Good Luck!

That is outside the 140-174 range of the radio. It cannot be programmed in this radio.

In the software, there is a transmit inhibit feature. Also, if you try to program some frequencies outside what the radio is allowed to do, they will receive only. This is a Ham radio, not a business band radio. You cannot legally program business frequencies on it from 01/01/2013. It is not US FCC type accepted.

Ha!Anyway, back to your query.Firstly, These little beasts are mass produced in China, hence that is the first no, no.Secondly, the user manuals are impossible for newbies to understand, let alone old schoolers like me., hence another no, no.Your warranty is probably useless, depending on your country.I am in Australia, and unless you can deal with the company directly, you will not be able to have protection re: the warranty.I won't buy Chinese made radios ever again, not even chinese made Motorola.If you have a chinese friend, or someone who can communicate in at least Manderin, then dealing with the manufacturer, is nigh on impossible due to misunderstanding.Sorry, but having the manual translated into our English is hard without someone who is capable of doing so.I hope that some of me advice can be useful to you.Best regards,Peter

If it is your sim that is locked, then what you need is your PUK code (Personal Unblocking Key).
It is found inside the sim cards pack. It is the 8 digit code that is on top of the sim card carrier. In some cases it used to be more than 8 digits or lesser.

When you purchased the sim it came in a pack consisting of the user manual, the sim card carrier, then the casing.

On the sim card carrier where you broke out the sim card from, you will see your number, the sim pin, then you will see a 8 digit code that is the puk code.

Enter it and it will prompt you for a new pin, enter the new pin and confirm it, then your phone will be unblocked.
