Maytag dishwasher legacy 300 quiet series

Maytag dishwasher sounds as though it has 'grinding' during cleaning cycle.  either it is unable to dispose of a harder than food like item...or what? We have only had our Quiteseries 300 for a little over 2 years. It is making the same grinding noises during the washing cycle. The dishes are pretty clean, but not like it use to.

About 1 minute after I start our Maytag 300 quiet series dishwasher a grinding sound starts which I can hear 3 rooms away. It sounds like a motor is grinding. I have taken the kick plate off and vacuumed the bottom out and checked for anything which might be impeding the motor. Nothing. I installed the dishwasher over 3 years ago and have had no other problems with it (that I couldn't fix easily). Does anybody have any Ideas as to what I can check or how to fix this problem?

Check for foreign objects like glass or plastic at the grinder blades. Some dis assembly will be required. See appliancepartspros.com for diagram.

FYI... I followed Miss Midget's steps... and there it was... a piece of plastic... actually one of the end caps from the rack. Poor design if you ask me. So for all you "grinders" out there, it's an easy fix... just need the appropriate star screwdriver. It went back together easier than it did taking it apart. Thanks.

Foul smell coming from Maytag Quiet Series 300

Hello jscott,
It is typical nowdays for most dishwashers not to drain all water out of the bottom tub (Even where you cant see) due to siphon design and energy efficiency. Try using about a liter of vinegar and throw it on the bottom tub of the dishwasher. Let it run through a full cycle and see how that works. Has worked for me

Loud noise

Check for bones/glass/ceramic from chipped plates in the food chopper (for lack of a better term). You'll need to disassemble the entire lower arm unit.

Hi jeffwirch,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your problem is: You have a maytag quiet series 300. When it is done with any of the cycles in leaves about 1-2 inches of water in the bottom of the dishwasher. You can manually hit the start button twice and it will go through a 2 minute cycle and pump out the water. You have cleaned the filter inside the dishwasher where it drains and have checked the hose to the disposal and it pumps out fine. It just doen't pump itself at the end of the cycle.

It sounds like a bad control board. It's in the top of the door panel. I don't recomend this repair to the average homeowner. You might consider the Repair Directory to find a repairman.

hi, there is probably some small pieces in the shredder. Remove the cover in the bottom and you will probably find some pieces near the blades.
