this might be something as simple as a safety switch , your gonna need to look at three that im sure won't allow it to start if not in working order . they are the occupant (seat) switch , next is the clutch depressed switch and last is the mower deck engauge lever switch all of these are safety switches to keep you from starting engine into a dangerous condition , also ck your cables to battery (both ends) clean and tight no wiggle and most important Plus(+) to plus side of battery and neg (-) to ground of frame , don't feel offended i suggest something so basic you can't belive how many mowers i get thru here with the battery installed backwards
Some mowers have a mowing reverse safety switch. That safety will kill the mower if you try to reverse with the deck engaged. Some mowers even have an override button that has to be held while backing up. As for the battery thing, no matter how much you charge a bad battery you will not get it to start a mower if it has a bad cell or two. I would use a multimeter to check battery voltage, but the end result would still be the same, replace the battery.
Check to see if you left the blades engaged. There is a safety switch that prevents starting with blades engaged. Easy to miss, happened to a friend of mine last month.
This is a safety feature that is not that hard to do so i say live with it.You do'nt have to hold it up just pull it up before you start backing up and once your moveing you can let go without it shutting off the deck until the pedel returns to neutral again, all tractor have it by law after a certain date so jumping around it is niot a good idea.
There's a safety shut-off switch below the seat, so when you're seated the switch is engaged. If you were to fall off the mower, the engine and Blades stop (safety feature).
Check the switch to see if it's operational.
Beyond that, mower may need a tune up or servicing, if it is not starting.
Lawn mowers in general can be dangerous, but riding mowers and lawn tractors are even more so. Some models have better safety features than others. You’ll want to look for, at the very least:
* A system that prevents the engine from starting unless the blade is disengaged and the machine is in neutral.
* An automatic blade shut-off that stops the mowing blades if you stand up rather than sit on the machine, or if you leave the mower/tractor.
* A system that stops the blade if you shift into reverse, or at least a lock that requires you to make a deliberate decision to mow in reverse.
